I crossed the "600 games" line recently and to think, 600 games is enough to play for a decade or, even, for a lifetime. Pretty sure that I won't ever launch like 30% of my library. And still, I spent my money on em, why? I can't even answer. I just made a purchase because I had money.

You know this feeling, when you see a new bundle full of unknown titles, and your mind goes "daym I need this". A lot of you have thousands of games and I bet you're not done yet. So what's this, a hobby or a mental problem? Would love to read your opinions and solutions.

Also, level 7 rush, games im not interested in, but YOU may be thrilled to get. Good luck!

Did it when the bundle craze was at its peak, but got 'wise' and (probably) won't ever do it again.

Same here.
I still buy some bundles with games I do play, at least for a few hours, but twice per year at most. And directly from Steam I probably buy 1-2 games once per year.

yeah same, nowadays I only buy games I want to play, when they're heavily discounted - with few exeptions of course

I've bought a couple games that I pirated when I didn't had internet, like Morrowind and Sacred Gold. Most likely will never play them again but since I had fun I think it's kinda fair to have them legally.

I kinda stopped buying bundles, it's been a long time since I bought one, but when I used to do it I did because I see it cheap and it had something that I thought I'd enjoy.

Yeah, that's why I bought bundles. Often the cheapest way to get a game or 2 I wanted, with a few extras thrown in.

There are two reasons I stopped. The first is that I realized that the wait between buying the bundle, and the rest of the games DLC going on sale, was getting a bit too long for my liking. The second is that my backlog is just too big.

The only way I'll buy a bundle now is if it includes all the DLC for a game.

Some years ago, I guess, yeah, if it was in a bundle with stuff I actually wanted. Nowadays I've almost completely stopped buying stuff for myself since the backlog is so big the assumption is they'll probably just add to the "which one of ALL these games I wanna play do I start next" anxiety.
(And if I do buy a bundle once in a blue moon any "extras" on top of the stuff I wanted go to the keys list to never be seen again. XD )

Kind of?
HLTB estimates ~500 days for me to beat my current library. So, if I spend 4 hours a day, 6 days a week playing games it'll take me around 10 1/2 years to finish my library (if my math is right).

That's... a long time, but technically do-able.

Nope. I don't.

Why?

I DON'T HAVE ANY PROBLEM, YOU HEAR. I AM REALLY PLANNING ON PLAYING ALL OF THEM!!!

Ok, honestly, I only buy games that I am interested, and would really play. Time is a problem, though

I sometimes buy older games in a series to complete the set, though often I've already played them years ago. I also like to buy games I played back in the day when I sailed the high seas, even though I probably won't play them again.

I passed 600 a few years ago, and slowed down a lot (particularly as Steam's sales became more lack-lustre and all the crazy game-for-$1 flash sales and the like ended), but I never quite managed to stop. I don't buy many games these days, but still seem to, somehow, keep buying games I never get around to playing :P

I even stopped entering giveaways recently. Decided to finish my backlog first since there are some awesome games in it. The last game I bought was Rise of Tomb Raider, because I decided to play all 3 games at once.

There was a period when I only started using Steam, I bought pretty much every game that I'd pirated and enjoyed before (and that was on Steam, of course); but never was I sure that I would ever play these games again. These days I try to only buy games that I think I will play, but yeah, we all know how this turns out way too often (my huge backlog, I'm talking about you).

Also, yes, I think that this mental problem is a perfectly affordable hobby.

Buying with an honest intention of eventually playing those games, and maybe that will even happen one day! As long as I am no dead there's always a chance :)

Thanks for the giveaways!

Yes, we must maintain hope! No matter how the odds become stacked against us, there's always the chance that one day we will play all the games! :)

In the past I got a lot more games that I never really planned on playing, just activating everything in the bundles, even if I wasn't really that interested. Now I only activate ones I think I'll enjoy playing, though I still forget a lot of them, haha.
Though also sometimes I buy games just cuz cute anime girls, so it's probably a mental problem for me, especially since it can't be considered "affordable" since I don't make money...

But yeah, I justify it by saying I'm supporting the industry in which I want to work, haha.

Well the way I think of it is you never know what you'll feel like playing when you play so having options is always a good thing.
Also there are games you get that you won't finish because of many reasons so if you had say 100 games, you might only have 25 or 30 you'll finish.

If you really want to know how long it would take you to beat that backlog...

no, I mostly enter gineaways or buy games I really want to play. I have entered for everything but failed to see the point of having a collection of games that you will never have the time to play.

I don't get games for the sake of owning them, I buy them to play them. And my backlog doesn't have to be completed in a week, it has a bunch of fun games that I will eventually get around to and play even if it will no doubt take a while.

A while ago I actually sat down, looked at every unplayed game of mine carefully with reviews, trailers and gameplay footage, and simply removed the games I thought would be a chore to play from my account. I had been looking at my library at some random games I got from bundles and thought, "wow, I don't look forward to having to play this" and I don't want to feel that way about my backlog. I went from 327 games to 300, and now it feels better because 1. My backlog isn't as big as before lol and 2. Now it feels like I'm looking forward to playing every single game in my backlog. And I don't want to buy more games now because 300 is a nice number.
