Says "Battle vs Chess" for me, so yeah, probably some regional thing.

so yeah probably because of the region ;)

They were thinking that they had to change the name in the US after being sued by the makers of Battle Chess over the similarity of the game's name. I'm sure it could have been handled better as far as Steam packages go though.

not only different Packages, but they are actually separate Steam Apps:
North American version "Check vs Mate": https://steamdb.info/app/211070/subs/
RoW version "Battle vs Chess": https://steamdb.info/app/211050/subs/
means you can own them both separately.

I know, I have both in my library :P
I'm sure they could have worked something out with Valve to have different package names in the NA region without it being a completely different Steam app. Maybe just have one different depot between the two version containing the localized resources.

Yes, it is from no game no life.
I liked it, but it's short and as far as I know, no season 2.

Any chess game with animations? As in the pieces attack each other(I.e. Pawn soldier stabs or clubs another pawn, queen hits a piece with a mace, etc.)?

The North American version (called Check vs Mate) is here: http://store.steampowered.com/app/211070/
it has no trading cards.
If you are from elsewhere than North America, you will get redirected to version called "Battle vs Chess" here: http://store.steampowered.com/app/211050/ (if you are in America or use VPN to do so, this link should redirect you to the above link)
This version is the one that got recently bundled, and it has trading cards.
You can own both versions, they are separate

Back in college, I played a bit of Knightmare Chess (actually, the original French version it's based on).
Thinking about both chess and Antichamber reminded me of that.

Some choices leave us running around a lot without really getting anywhere.
A choice may be as simple as going left or going right.
If you don’t like where you’ve ended up, try doing something else.
When you return to where you’ve been, things aren’t always as remembered.
Connecting the pieces can solve a puzzle.
It’s harder to progress if you’re leaving things behind.
Some tasks require a lot of care and observation
Look a little harder and you will find a way forward.
Going a certain way may require building your own path.
The solution to a problem may just require a more through look at it.
Moving through a problem slower may help find the solution.
