Right. Never trust 'random contests' over a public friend/chat system.

Whats the reason for the acounts being named [unassigned] anyways?

They should really block chat usage with less then 1 steam store bought game.

They do now (or, technically, until you spend $5): https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=3330-IAGK-7663
This bot had three games.

was the link some like of tinyurl, or a steamRNrnmunity type imitation url?

A lot of below $5 accounts got ** up from the rule. B4 their profile had badges and games. Now its just looks like any scammer lvl 1 profile.

Well but if they did not spend more than $5 they are also not able to really use the market or trading system. That means chances are high that they won't be very active in the steam community. That means you won't get random adds by these people and don't have to worry about them.
Sorry but if you are a on steam for a little more than playing one or two specific games you probably have spent this tiny amount. I'd even have this amount only through buying small games like bad rats and all the other 19 cent games with cards

I hear ya got a 6 year old steam account only started using it 3 years ago, but fm 09 forced me to use get a steam account

3 bots added me just today. Seems like the scam only just started.

Funny thing is, all 3 accounts had CSGO, and other popular games in it, each clocking more than 100+ hours in each game + Achievements.
Was confused if it was indeed a bot. But then i read the profile comments.

So basically, this proves that CS:GO players are easy targets for scams? Interesting.

Well, paying so many $$ for some virtual HAT or a stupid COLOUR OF YOU GUN is to blame. Good business for Valve,, but bad for users.
Can't really blame Valve too. Its people who have a choice and they must decide wisely.

No, well, csgo has a lot of kid, but that's not the point.
The point is: a csgo player probably has some skins (tradable+marketable items alias more money to scam here)

WHAT? Damn... so now scammers let iddle popular games huh, bastards :/

Some of my friends dont click links even if they have known you for a while.

Some bot's start to send links only after few days or few weeks. A few days ago i had a case like that from a user I accepted more than a week ago. It had level 1 account and 100+ hour in CS:GO and achievements. And 1-2 other games all with some play time.

I had the same thing happen a few hours ago. I just reported and moved on. Also the Steam Summer sale is about to begin. The new "mystery" card set is out :D

The one I saw was just picking a group: http://www.steamgifts.com/discussion/8SXkH/new-type-at-least-to-me-of-scam-bot, and this one of yours also says group, so it was likely a random pick too

A new form of scam. Some private profile posted on my profile like this: "Hi, is that your picture {link}? I just found you on the net, haha"
Sorry bitch, you can't find my pic on the internet!

sigh...
I remember the days of internet anonymity. Unfortunately, those days are long gone. Once your info is on the net, it's on for good. P

Yeah, thats why I'm hesitant about posting my pics on social networking sites. Once someone (a friend I later found out) created fake account by my name and did some damage, but since he couldn't find my pic the damage wasn't that high.

Hey guys,
I ran into a new scam (new to me atleast), involving Steamgifts and I thought I'd give out a warning to others incase you run into it aswell.
So I got added by a profile with the name [unassigned], level 1, with 3 games. Enough warnings there but then the bot autostarted this chat:
[unassigned] (2): Hi, we held a competition in the group steamgifts . Prize [link removed] on 10 winners!
[unassigned] (2): You have been selected as one of ten random winners.
[unassigned] (2): You can choose any 5 items from the list on the screenshot [link removed]
I removed the links to be safe. Anyway, reported the account and blocked it... I'm not gonna fall for a stupid trap like that. But I still wanted to warn others to keep an eye out for it!
Cheers
