This 50$ Audio-Technica ATH-M20x Professional Headphones or a Sennheiser one + separate mic for example this 18$ Trust Starzz Microphone, you will get much better sound quality for games and music, and a much better mic than the one attached to a headset for the price of 70$, unless you want a surround sound headset with 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound, which imo is not worth.

This headset will most probably have better sound quality than even a 70$ gaming headset, this Audio Technica series have sound oriented to middle range, valid for every type of music, and Sennheiser normally does bass oriented sound, which lots of ppl prefer, Gaming is just a word, so this music headset are good for everything even gaming.

PS: I think you should change the title to something like "Help me choose a headset", just "headset" not seems to attract a lot of ppl.

I've been using Sennheiser for years. They have the least bass out of every headphone producer I have ever used (Not including 5-below earphones). The best overall sound quality as well.

That is a really nice head set and i would get a separate mic as it will sound better and work better

I would stay away from 5.1 if you want my opinion i wish i had never got mine,as the bass is weak and i still use my stereo head set a lot more.I like the bass and with my Sound Blaster sound card i use the EQ to fine tune the head set.

You also need to think about closed or open head set,as that can make a difference on comfort and long use.

As a rule closed head sets offer a bit better sound but can also get a bit warmer since they do not breath as well but it also blocks out a lot of background noise.

Open head set you will not get as warm and can wear them for longer periods before getting to warm, but they also pick up background noise but also easier to hear what is being said with other people in the room or sounds.

I went for the closed set because of the better sound and blocking out background noise but sometimes they do get a bit warm and i have to take them off,it all depends on how warm you get as to how much they will effect.

The only thing is i got the JVC HARX700 because i like the extra bass when listening to music and movies

i love them but the Audio-Technica are just as good if not a bit better,i almost got those but i got a better deal with the JVC so i ended up getting them for 25 bucks

Good luck with whatever you choose let us know what you decide

Sennheiser+ seperate mic.

If you wanna go cheap though, I'll Recommend a Sades Headset. I've been using one for 6 months now, and am satisfied.

It is. I paid 25$, and from reading most reviews, it has never been above that price.

I just ordered this, waiting for shipping now. Seems like a good deal.

Or if you prefer wireless - http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Wireless-Gaming-Headset-Surround/dp/B003VANOFY

These 2 seems good enough too for a tighter budget.

I'd recommend Logitech since they haven't disappoint me before.

Personal experience:

  • Senheiser is my best favored brand for audio devices, but their prices is usually very premium. I don't buy them for personal use.
  • Logitech's gaming audio is not bad for their price range.
  • Don't pick a wireless headset if you are using wireless internet, they interfere each other very easily. My previous wireless headset will get crackling sound whenever I watch YouTube because of the high traffic from my internet WiFi.
  • Sony and Philips are a good brand for audio headsets, but they don't usually come with attached microphone.
  • Haven't tried Razer and Steelseries, but I think it's just over-priced marketing gimmicks for "gaming headset". The same goes for Sony's and Microsoft's "gaming headset" targeted for PlayStation and Xbone.

Get a good headset (I like Senheiser the best) then add a Antlion ModMic to it. Two birds with one stone.
