Cod and Cs is running around and bf3 I camp only when sniping.

Nope I actually hate that kind of stuff (of course when i am a sniper i will camp, i have to) I dont hate defenders when they camp, they have to, because they are defending but i do hate when the so-called attacking team is camping. Otherwise every player, every class should do what he is supposed to; a scout has to go and explore, a sniper should be hiding, a heavy armored guy/assaulter should nuke/tank etc...

Back in the Quake II time there was no such thing as campers...

bah camping is so boring! which is probably why I suck at FPS games so much, and stay away from any kind of multiplayer. I tend to just not care and run in shooting (hitting nothing) and getting slaughtered quickly. But it's so much more fun to just say screw it and fly in like a chicken with it's head cut off! Bah I hate strategy.

Well, in CoD I'm almost always rushing with marathon pro, that's why I don't have a K/D above 1.2, because of all the camping fucktards everywhere.

It depends entirely on the game and the role I'm trying to play right now. My preferred play style is very defensive which tends to lend itself towards camping anyway since leaving the place I'm supposed to be protecting tends to defeat the purpose of trying to defend it. On the rare times I play offensively I tend to avoid camping as much as possible since it's too hard to continue pushing forward if you're trying to find places to plant your butt and sit. However, if I am going offensive with a team, I tend to go into camp mode again. I'll stay back and lay down sniper or cover fire so that the rest of the team can move forward easier. Not so sure this last part qualifies as camping though.

If it's an effective strategy, then I don't mind if people do it.
If the game is no longer fun as a result, that's the fault of the game's designers, not the camper.
(If it's not an effective strategy (i.e. defensive camping on a map where the team needs everyone to help take a point and the camper isn't even providing cover fire), then I hate the people doing it.)
In TF2, I don't really camp -- it's usually pointless. In CS, I'll camp strategically, but often, being on the move is more effective, depending on the current goals.
Also, spawn camping is hilarious (even if you're on the losing side).

I guess I "Camp" a bit aka be smart and use cover, but also move to new positions so you can kill them again when they come to get their revenge.. Of course this doesn't work in all the new CoD games cos the maps are getting smaller and smaller and everyone has to act like Rambo on speed.

I avoid competitive FPS like the plague, but when I make the mistake of playing a COD or whatever I'm that guy who runs around and knifes people, even if he's bad at it. Which I am.

Do you typically consider yourself a camper or NOT a camper in FPS games and why? Why do campers get a bad rap? I think I typically like to find a great strategic spot and tend to camp for some period of time instead of just constantly moving. I know this can depend on the game, but in general i'm wondering...
How about you?
