They were originally created to prevent government regulation (think outrage from Mortal Kombat 1), but now they can't even self regulate their sensitive data.

Yep, massive snafu. And I guess ESA could try to argue that they didn't do the doxxing since they did not knowingly spread the spreadsheet to irrelevant parties. But then they still be easily accused of willful negligence since a) they put file with confidential data in an unsecure location on the internet and b) they ignored earlier warnings that the data was exposed.

AFAIK there were European people on that list too. Those guys can sue under GDPR laws. Americans on the list probably will want to look into a class action lawsuit similar to the Equifax data breach. (Sure, this wasn't millions of people getting their info leaked, a few hundred folks banding together is still more than enough to make that work.)
