You do know that most gamers (especially if you include anyone that plays games) do not play games from non-AAA studios, right?

I don't care who developed a game as long as it looks fun. Though on a game-by-game basis I do pay extra attention to technical issues mentioned in reviews and discussions, as well as how / if the dev responds to users that have issues with their game.

In many cases the only time I've seen the name of the devs of a game I'm playing is during the intro and/or the credits, and I honestly can't remember that many names.

A better question:
"Do you answer or consider answering questions by obscure members you've never heard of?"

Permalink

well as you know already I allow all honest answers on this site that means you not want answer question by obscure member then don't its called freedom of expression

For me, it's more that knowing a game is from a game developer I do like helps me confirm that I might enjoy a game, or in the case of a developer I don't like, maybe I won't like it. Generally, I just look at the game itself and base my want for a game off that.

So, basically, we should never play debut games by new studios, did I understand you correctly?

It doesn't matter who the developers are, it matters if the game is any good. So the question is odd.

Welcome to SG!
If you haven't read them yet, the FAQ and Guidelines should answer many questions you got and explain things you didn't even think about in the first place.

Regarding your question: No, an unknown developer / publisher name doesn't influence if I want to play a game or not.

Yes. Sometimes you find some nice hidden gems that way. Also every dev starts somewhere, and it's not always with a big hit.

Take From Software for example. Those guys were relatively obscure until Dark Souls happened, but by then they also had Otogi, Enchanted Arm(s) and the Armored Core series on their resume. Not break-out hits, but good solid titles all the same.

As far as I'm concerned, that's where the fun is. AAA games are all fun and giggles but the developers who are not even on your radar and get you good with some seemingly unassuming little game that sucks you in for hours and hours (for 20% of the price of a big hyped game that ends up disappointing)... they are the fun part of gaming.

I've actually been making a point of creating giveaways for games I love that most people haven't heard of. Part of the fun of SteamGifts is discovering new games to wishlist. :)

If you're trying to figure out whether giveaways for obscure indie games will get any entries, the answer is yes.

Not necessarily because people want to play the games, though. There are many people who just want to increase the size of their Steam library and/or farm trading cards.

The more pressing question is, why is the post in all caps while the first letters of the other senteces are all lowercase? That's not how capitalization works!

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

SOMETIMES YOU WANT TO USE ALL CAPS!

and sometimes you don't want to use any caps.
