tried rewatching it again a couple months back after not having seen it for many years; maybe my tastes have changed (don't think they have... i loved prison school) or maybe i've just grown bored with it but in my case, i was remembering it more fondly than when i actually rewatched. hope you can still enjoy it.

Princess Tutu (link is to Wikipedia since I don't remember how to find it) is a magical girl story, except instead of magical powers, there's ballet. Princess Tutu's true identity is an awkward girl at a dance academy, except she's also actually a duck. It's been a while, but I think some of the characters have escaped from a storybook, and the storyteller's ghost wants an end to the story? And the "real world" might be turning into a fictional place in the process? Man I don't remember half of the stuff that went on in that show, but it was good.

I think the word strange is a very broad term for what you're asking, and depending on the person and how much or the type of anime they've seen that can mean something that you think is normal.
My pick for a great, perhaps strange, but more just crazy is Bokusatsu Tenshi Dokuro-chan :-)

So I was looking at youtube again, and I notice on my recommendations (trust me, you do NOT want to know about my searches :P ) and I got recommended something I COMPLETELY forgot existed. So I got to wondering what your strangest anime you have ever seen was.
The recommendation was for Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo.
So I got to remembering Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt as one of the stranger ones I have ever seen.
