I can't think of a better way to misuse campaign funds.

Big deal. At least he is legally buying games and helping game developers earn money unlike those despicable pirates.

But he wasn't legally buying anything, that is the point of the indictment...?

Hunter stole $250,000 illegally from his campaign fund, only $1500 was spent on steam. Duncan Hunter is not his original name. His fathers name is Duncan Hunter (father was the previous rep for the district) and to trick voters he changed his name just so people would vote for the same name again. Slimy! Duncan Hunter is a huge douche and massively corrupt! Also he didn't call himself Duncan Hunter Jr because he was knowingly deceiving voters.

Stealing is one thing, but doing it illegally is just unforgivable. Why, back in my day politicians just engaged in honest embezzlement and used the funds for cocaine and hookers. These days? Video games. We're on a downward slope, I tell ya.

Funny. i emphasized "illegally" just in case certain people didin't understand stealing was illegal.
yes I know it sounds like repeating myself, but these days people seem to not understand simple things.

To be frank, it is just a custom to call yourself Jr. if your name is the same as your father's, not something mandated. I share a name with my father and grandfather, but none of us ever bothered with age suffixes (well, prefixes here).

He's definitely slimy, but I don't see where he changed his name.

From what I can find, his name is (and always has been) Duncan Duane Hunter.

His father's name is Duncan Lee Hunter. Since he has a different middle name, he isn't technically a Junior. So not calling himself a Junior is not deceptive.

There was an article years ago about changing his name, his first was not Duncan, but there are so many corruption articles now cannot find it.

I don't know, it smells fishy. A Republican politician who knows how computers work? It is some work of fiction, undoubtedly, especially if it involves knowing what Steam even is. :P
The embezzlement is very realistic, I give them that, but the Steam part totally ruins it.

Funny, but he does have kids. He didn't want to leave his kids out of his embezzlement.
His kids were happy to get all those games.

Russian asset flip shovelware. Gotta repay the ex-commies for their influencing the elections somehow... And that satisfies multiple conspiracy theories at once, so it must be correct

"Hunter, who was elected to the San Diego-area district his father once represented in 2008, argued in a 2013 Politico editorial that video games shouldn't be used as a scapegoat for real-world violence. "The narrative that children and young adults today stare at television and computer screens, developing lethal skills through first-person gaming experiences, disingenuously portrays video games as having a corrosive influence," he wrote. "The problem with this rationale is that it conveys an image that America’s youth are incapable of discerning right from wrong, which simply is not true.""

in lieu of the past position already on record, I'm kinda surprised they even didn't try to write it off as some sort of potential platform investigation that just hit a dead end
