Few months ago I won a Dishonored in a public giveaway, and today Steam Deleted it from my account... something wrong about the payment of the game... great >_<

The message is in Spanish, but here you can see a screenshot of the steam error >_<

http://img856.imageshack.us/img856/1281/sinttulouaj.jpg

It was a Steam Gift, not a key -_-

At least I finished the game..

Edit: now the giveaway is marked as not received and the user reported...

Make sure you report the creator (make sure you include that screenshot) because you could get reported for not having the game in your library by some of the more zealous members of this site.

It doesn't matter, what matters is keeping you from being suspended for having a win that isn't activated on your account. (There are a lot of people that use this site that love to report people for every little thing... >_> )

I won Skyrim back when it was still in its preorder phase, the guy got it for me but then recanted it. I talked to Support, they said to mark it as not received, so I did. I actually own the game myself now from it going on sale. If the guy ever DOES talk to me, I feel he still owes me a copy so I plan to put in a support ticket asking permission to put the copy he gives me as a giveaway (I wouldn't consider it regifting, personally, since it's been over a year and I own the game).

You switched it to not received and they retain that negative mark on their account, that is the debt owed and it is paid in damaged reputation. No matter what light you put it in you're not going to get another chance at it from the same guy just so you can turn around and inflate your contributor value artificially. I wouldn't count on hearing again from someone who scammed you, especially that long ago.

1 decade ago
Permalink

I don't expect to ever hear from him, but I wouldn't say it's inflating my contrib value artificially, as had I already owned Skyrim from the giveaway when the sale went on, I'd have bought a copy to give away anyway.

They should take measures against the infractor, that's the original guy who bought the game, but they would NEVER remove the game from a guy that legally won/traded it, and that's what Valve always do. They should be penalized by laws for that way of acting ...

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yep^^, if he bought the game and gave it away, he should not be able to reverse the process.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

So, if you have stolen goods in your possession you should be allowed to keep them? I don't know about the law where you are but here if you have stolen goods it will be taken back. The game was not paid for so it was revoked, no matter who has it now. In case of a trade, Valve will usually give you back whatever you traded for it if you ask nicely. If you got it as a gift, then you simply lose the game.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

What valve should do imo:
1) Remove 'stolen' (aka unpaid for) games from the accounts that have them.
2) Revoke buying privileges from the account that 'bought' them in the first place, as well as paypal email/cc's associated with said account.
3) Only return those privileges after the paymen for the games has been made, which would be the exception to step 2.

He should not be able to take his money back if he gifted the game.

1 decade ago

Yes, because the credit card company will totally call Valve up and ask them if the games have geen gifted before cancelling the transaction.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I hadn't used a credit card, but if the transaction was made in the past, it can be canceled?

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yes, unlike transaction from the future. :P

Actually, if you call your credit card company and say that the transaction was fraudulent they will issue a chargeback. Or if your card has been stolen. I don't think Vavle issues refunds on games you've given away, but if you payment processor cancels the transaction for any reason, and Valve doesn't get paid, then they will revoke the game no matter who has it at the moment.

heh, sorry. not how it works

think about it. if I stole something gave it to a friend who then sold it and somehow the money found its way to me...
it'd be a legal clusterfuck if that was considered legit.

before you go saying somebody should be "penalized by the law" it'd be a good idea to know what the law actually is. or at least to have a gram of common sense on your side.

well....except with leases for some retarded reason. if I leased you an apartment I didn't own in CA the owner can't kick you out even though basically you'd be squatting and preventing him from making money on his own property...but California is batshit so there you go.

No calling out. There's no way of knowing the creator didn't trade for it and got screwed in the whole deal himself, but people jumping to conclusions could start an unjustified witch hunt, just for example. If someone suspects wrongdoing on the part of another user, it should be reported to support and not acted on otherwise. We'll take care of it.

Being new here doesn't make me any less suitable to report an user when I catch him breaking the rules, yet no one answers to this reports (might be because half of the users here are reselling/trading their gifts anyway).

Support and report are 2 different things. I also got an answer from staff, but reporting users doesn't do anything. Reported users don't get restricted in any way, so you might as well just stop doing it. Also, Ignore User is right next to Report User (are you sure you're using the same site?)

1 decade ago
Permalink

I take it you've never seen the red banner saying BANNED next to a user.

As for the ignore function, apparently it's in the new add-on, i'm still using the "older" version.

Comment has been collapsed.

Report button works fine for me.

Clicking the report button auto opens a ticket with appropriate title, direct link to the person who is reported, and a nice form to fill in to report them efficiently.

All such reports I've submitted have been answered.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

  1. There is if you are using the add-on

  2. I've found the response times to be wildly inconsistent. Sometimes it comes soon, other times it has been weeks. I had a ticket open previously that went unaddressed for over a month, and the end of which the response was simply to automatically close it under a made assumption that I no longer cared about it since it was so old. It was concerning creating a giveaway for a game pack that did not appear on the giveaway list. Anyway, the community lost out there. I ended up just giving it away elsewhere.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I've been here for months and in some ways I agree. Everyone likes to cry foul about calling out fake giveaways and yet the staff here isn't doing their part to stop them from occurring in the first place by putting better (and simple) measures into place. Sometimes I wonder whether they just enjoy suspending people who speak out and only want this to be fixed, rather than actually addressing the issue at the source.

On newly registered accounts, why hasn't something like a 30-day waiting period to create any giveaways been put in place? That would be very easy to implement. Also, how about combining that with a form that all users have to read and fill out in English (only once), answering some questions to verify that they understand how the site works before being able to make any giveaways? That would require a little more work but still doesn't seem like it would be too hard. I think those 2 things combined would be a good start and you could make adjustments from there. It wouldn't stop all false giveaways but it would help curtail many of them imo.

That's just one example.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I don't agree with a 30 day waiting period, as there will be people who join for the main purpose of giving away a game, or games. It seems an unnecessary hurdle and punishes people who understand what's going on for the laziness/ineptitude of those who don't.

Better to have a short quiz as part of the registration process, with failure causing a return to the very beginning and forcible re-inputting of all information. That way people who can't be bothered to read, or don't understand the site rules will be barred until they are in a position to become worthwhile users of the site.

The moderators of this webpage are really good and always reading the tickets.
Much times i been reporting and they always anwser pretty fast.
Even before the webpage was open and was invite only i used to submit reports of people that used to sell invite keys and they banned em in less than 30minutes.
Stop saying they suck. You only been here for 1 week.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

The issue is that it often comes down to he-said-she-said. So the moderators can investigate, but for things like this it can be tricky to figure out exactly what happened. Outside of very obvious situations, I expect that most people get banned based on their total history rather than one event.

But it's still worth reporting people, because if this is some kind of a scam, they'll eventually get banned when multiple reports come in.

The summary of this story: finish games you win on sg as soon as possible, they can magically disappear from your library as magically as they appeared. Which in turn means: X buys a game for himself, messes around with it for a week, X revokes payment, X gets his money back, Valve takes the game away.
X buys another game for himself, .. lol wait, does it really work like that?

1 decade ago

It was a gift, but Steam always treats accounts with problems (no matter whose fault the problem was) with suspicion. Next time OP has legitimate problem, Support might be much less willing to help due to first one.

You won a game, finished it, had it, yet will never play again, what was the problem?

Well it is strange since it took 3 months to lose the game.

Most people will complain, but with only 2 endings who many people will seriously play through more than twice?

Overall based on the time spent it is more of a win than a loss.
