Recently I've installed Crisis and Crisis Warhead and out of two, the first wasn't working properly with textures breaking thus forcing me to uninstall and the latter failing to start, at all. Now this, unfortunately, is not the first time Steam games have failed me. They're either bugged or sometimes don't work for no apparent reason whatsoever. I'm just wandering, am I the only one who really feels frustrated how Steam sometimes fails miserably? Not only with games that are not working but also with games that are sometimes being put on sale? Remember dat zombie game? Think of numerous greenlit games that failed to deliver? Right now, I'm just wandering how much can I take... I feel like Steam is taking the mickey out of me by making me pay for products that don't work or are (even worse) unfinished pieces of crap that fail to deliver 1% of what they were supposed to be.

Steam is only a provide, a digital distributor of games. Your qualms are with the individual games/developers and not Steam.

Furthermore, if you're looking for assistance I imagine we would need more details such as your PC's specs because texture problems suggests a lacking in hardware power or a need for updated drivers.

My PC specs are fine. I've played both of the games years before actually purchasing them on Steam. I've actually played pirated copies even after purchasing games on Steam because for some weird reason, Steam versions were not working at all.

I don't have the technical expertise to even speculate as how a Steam version of a game plays differently than, say, a DVD. I can say, however, that I have had limited issues with playing on Steam as I have for the past 8 years.

Again, Steam is just a distributor. In the case of WarZ, Steam actually took down the purchasing button after finding out that the developers of that game were not delivering on the promises made on their product details page. Really, I just follow the same principle with every game and rarely ever buy a game at release. I wait for reviews.

Maybe your save files from the non-steam versions are making it go all loopy.

Had it installed on freshly formatted HDD with freshly installed windows... still wasn't working. But you seem to be missing the point of whole topic :(

Steam is merely a delivery service in a way and doesn't alter the actual game files, so if you're having problems with various games, there's another issue here. Such as your "textures breaking", completely unrelated to Steam.

9 years of service, +500 games later. Never had a single issue with Steam (excluding in 2003 with the CS 1.6 beta and Steam beta). Fix your computer ;p

And for the people who bought War Z (and complain afterwards)... well they deserve it. They might have learned a lesson lol (and the one's who bought it with false advertising got a refund). Do think it's a real shame Steam readded it though :/

Ya know, you actually just reminded me that I did have issues playing Max Payne 2. I bought the first and second one (well before the third came out) and was able to cleanly play the first, but the second was jacked up (I can't remember specifically how) and I couldn't find a way to fix it o_O

Usually it's caused by the game itself or when Steam has corrupt files, but those usually get fixed very fast. Now I come to think of it.... once had to wait 4 hours before they fixed it and I had to download a big part of the game again :p

Damn I told a lie in my first post it seems :p
