Nay. If I am not mistaken, there is a way to add additional security to your account.

That, or the hijacker gets their e-mail login details as well. Would not be too difficult if a person uses the same password on both Steam and e-mail, I imagine.

That's a big mistake, though. At the very least, your main email account password should be strong and unique.

Nay, mostly. It's not overly difficult to not get your account hijacked. You either have to give out both your Steam and e-mail login details, or manually run a suspicious program you've downloaded.

Well, just do like me.

  1. Steam Guard

  2. Email protected by SMS.

  3. Hijacker is asked to get code from my mobile phone (which looks like that 60* ** 08, I mean the format of hidden number)

It's uncrackable until the hijacker can read messages from my private phone.

it's free, you need your phone every single time you use a new device -or ip or whatever- to login and you can have backup codes if you'll be away from your phone.

just to be clear, they're not used for getting your hijacked account back. just same kind of codes you'd get by sms to login your email account when you don't have your phone nearby (or maybe its battery is dead and you can't charge it). so if they get access to your account via customer service, it's neither useful nor related to the subject.

It is called 2-step verification. Facebook also uses this method, so basically if people can't get hold of my private phone, they can't get hold of my account.

I get the point (that there are simple steps you can take to protect yourself). However, I feel it necessary to point out that not everyone has a mobile phone, which makes a good portion of your suggested plan impossible for many people.

"uncrackable". Not quite. The weak link is humans, and if the "hacker" just calls customer support and can convince them it is their account, they're in. They can do this for your email or anything connected.

Nope, there is a file in your pc, if Hijacker with some trash trojan gets this file, your steamguard is useless

Nope, Chuck Testa.

All you have to do is download and use .scr file and your account will send your items for you, for free. Like for this guy.

what's with that arrogant feedback? maybe it didn't happen to you but it happens everyday to many people. i think it's really good idea and it would help to protect kids and people that are very alien to this kind of stuff (is there such phrase? i don't care. i'm alien to engrish.) but love games. remember, being naive is not the crime but phishing and hijacking accounts are.

Nay, nay and twenty times nay.

Don't do anything stupid, and it's very unlikely your account will get hijacked. If it happens, and you've done nothing absurdly stupid, there's a good chance you'll get your gear back anyway.

This solution just punishes the smart for the rank stupidity and recklessness of the few.

Let the weak perish, and their cards, gems, wallet funds and TF2 items with them. We shouldn't mess with nature, or stand in the way of progress.

Yes. Seriously. There are a raft of more important things to do. I'd rather Valve spend their time working on some way of electrifying the keyboards, headphones and mice of users who create phishing bots, or turn their attention to sorting out the multitude of issues which hobble the Steam client, rather than creating unnecessary redundant levels of security to protect a handful of imbeciles from themselves.

Please, flame away. I am ready...

Let me level with you: I'm a terrible human being.

Now if it's all the same to you, I'm off to enjoy a plate full of Mrs Woodchuck's famous Baby Tikka Masala.
