I'm migrating to a new computer and am having difficulty getting my user tags to transfer. These instructions don't seem to work anymore. There is no *steamgifts* file in Local Storage.

Any thoughts? I'm not going to have my old machine much longer.

Solution #1 that worked for me...follow down the discussion a bit.

Solution #2 suggested by SquishedPotato and expanded upon by Sighery. I didn't try it since Solution #1 worked for me. Sighery points out that this solution will likely only work if you're using the same browser and script manager on both systems.

although im blacklisted by you - which version of chrome are you using? I am no using chrome myself - but have you tried looking into the tampermonkey addon folder? maybe the files are located there - or do a search of "steamgifts" within the appdata folder - maybe the files have an other name now

So I just tested the whole problem on the laptop of my gf (who is using chrome) .. the local files are stored here: C:\Users*USERNAME*\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\Local Storage\leveldb

in her case the file containing the infos is called 000262 ... probably it has an other name on your machine

and in case something like that happens again you can solve problems like that easily by using the totalcommander

  • create a user information for a random user, that is recognizable -- for example testtset or whatever -- something that wont be in any other file
  • close your browser
  • navigate to the appdata folder within the total commander and click on the binoculars on the top
  • click on text search and enter your recognizable string testtset
  • the search will take a bit of time but in the end you will be able to find the file containing your string

Hmm, following your lead, I took a look at that folder (which I'd noticed earlier, but it didn't have anything obviously relevant). I'm guessing your gf's laptop has filename extensions hidden? In any event, I found some files there with a six-digit number filename, with either an ldb or in one case .log extension. Although none of them had 000262 in the filename, a simple test revealed that the one .log file got updated with my user tags edit. It also had a bunch of other stuff in there, not just from steamgifts, it seemed. I brought that file to my new machine, looked for and found a similar .log file (different number, though), and copied the old machine's log file to the new machine's filename. And it worked! I don't know what other settings got brought over (non user-tags stuff), but at least it works.

Thank you for the pointer in the right direction. :D
I appreciate you helping out despite the blacklist. Ironically, my user tag reminds me why you're there. :p But add me on Steam or post in an old giveaway if you're curious.

strange - my first reply wasnt posted
so again...

I know why I am on your BL - I joined a SGtools protected giveaway, that my GF (new to SG at that time) sent me-- I was tired and she told me to instantly join -- she forgot to mention the SGtools check and I was too tired to read your GA text -- so I never realized that it was a SGtools protected GA

I replied to your thread but you never replied so I just accepted the BL --- and since that time i dont join giveaways, that my GF sends me

glad that my solution helped

Found the GA and the thread, but I didn't see your reply (maybe you removed it-- it does ring a dim bell). Either way, updated my blacklist and your user tag. ;-)

thank you very much :) I was always interested in this blacklist timer and the corresponding times -- I was on your BL for 8 months, roughly estimated 240 days -- the timer is 6 days now

I posted it in the thread where you reported me ;) so in the SGtools thread - I am relatively sure that its way too big to find this post ;)

Wait-- you're saying you still can't enter my GAs for another six days? I know that I cannot enter yours for six days, but I thought the unblacklisted got immediate access.

I searched by the SGTools ID and found it. I knew it seemed familiar. I guess at the time I thought to myself, "sure, likely story..." Well, I'm, uh, glad we got that sorted out... :p

I´m not sure since I use firefox but have a bump maybe someone else can give you a hand. I´ve had no issues with greasemonkey so far, even when I reinstalled the browser itself.

Here's another possible solution, as suggested by SquishedPotato and expanded upon by Sighery.
