The only truth!
Fake News Media :(

SEGA has been licensing the Genesis/Mega Drive to other companies for a long time, you could even say that it never left.
I doubt SEGA has any plan to comming back to the hardware industry in the way fans expect them to (as in a new console), but I did saw somewhere on the internet that they're about to start selling many of their classic controllers again, and with USB ports or wireless!

I just hope they release a console with HDMI and bluetooth controllers that can emulate the games properly, the reviews for the last one that came out said that the thing strugled even with the games included and the selection of titles was a bit lacking.
I know you can get some decent clones in Brazil but honestly I think the emulator they have on steam does a pretty good job, I just hope to find a USB saturn controller at a reasonable price someday.

The thing is, if they release a Mega Drive mini, it would just be one in a long long line of many. We already have a bunch of these that have been released over the last 15 years. Nintendo were the ones who were late to the party.

I'm with Axel here, would just be something along the lines of those Nintendo Mini consoles that have been popular, Sega has had a bunch done in the past by various companies. Hopefully it will have a better game list than the last one I saw. I was all interested until I found out most of the included 'classics' was junk developed by the company selling the system, while the remaining games were common titles from the Sega compilations that didn't need battery backup. No Sonic 3 or Shining Force, but I could play Altered Beast or Sonic Spinball. I wisely decided to save my money, no matter how nice the included pads looked.

However, this is Steam's service for foreign countries.
It does not exist for Japan. So, there seems to be demand.

How much money would they need to come back? And with all the mistakes they made in the past.....
I remember hearing about their $100 million marketing campaign (in late '90s dollars, no less) that failed, their "free Dreamcast console with 2-year online subscription" failure, their failure to compete with PS2 and Xbox (the latter especially in US), and their last unit, the Dreamcast, that had GD-ROM storage with only a 1 GB capacity (much less than a DVD).
Getting my head away from all that; right now, they would need to do well in all of: the arcade business, handheld & licensed consoles, software, and their once-stellar first party games. If they get all these things right, it might happen. It's not "just" about sales/demand, it's also about brand and reputation rebuilding. If you don't agree with me, how would YOU go about rebuilding a fallen giant?

The Dreamcast was a good console, but it was ahead of its time in many ways. Online wasn’t practical yet, the screen in the controller was low quality, etc.
It was trying to be innovative when the technology wasn’t ready yet, and misfired in the graphics jump (128k, when 256k was not far away)

Two console failures in a row drive them out of business. Nintendo had misfires as well, but never twice in a row

I remember the CM where there is taste when listening to Dreamcast.

Earthquakes occur frequently in Japan in a short time.
It is different from the place where I live. But I am scared.
