I have a quick question about the way the amount contributed works - will the amount I contribute decrease as the value of the games I have given away decreases. This question is probably best ask with an example:

If I give away a $20 game today will my contributed amount be $20? Assuming it is, what happens if next week Steam is selling it for $10 (not sale price), will my contributed amount decrease as well?

Yup. I think this happens because of the Steam API the site uses is in real time, not when the giveaway was made.

Yes, your value will decrease if the Steam regular retail price decreases.

The decrease in value shouldn't be an encouragement. Generosity is the encouragement anyone should need on this site.

Off topic, but why does it matter if a person gives solely based upon contributor value? Some people give to charities just for the tax break, although self serving, people still get helped. What makes it wrong for people to give things away for this reason, and right for giving for givings sake? Isn't it self-righteous of us to tell people why they should give? Doesn't the ends justify the means/reasons in this case? What is a man? A miserable little pile of secrets!

Stop it ... please! There have been 50 million of these philosophical debates the last couple of days. We need a moratorium for the next week on this subject!

P.S. How does one judge intent? Pretty hard to legislate.

Not really a debate. I just wish people would stop with the giving for givings sake. It is self-righteousness at best. The bottom line should be "who cares?" Giving games away means the site stays alive. But enough talk. Have at you!

It will only decrease if the permanent value of the game decreases. If it gets on sale it won't decrease your contribution value.
