So the Really Big Bundle is starting at 3.99 and won't go any lower correct?
So pre-ordering will be a win win?

Pretty much. We'll get our codes pretty quickly if the site isn't down for heavy traffic again or any other issues like in the past show up again.

I wouldn't call it a win-win. More like potential win depending on how quickly you'd find out about the bundle and how "attractive" an offer it will be.

You pay $1 more than the base price, and you have no idea what you're paying for.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yeah, that's the thing that I was pondering about.
It was said that the pre-order was a minimum of $3.99, so I think that the minimum for The Really Big Bundle will be $3.99 as for the base price. But for the future bundles, since they're no longer giving the date in which it's released, the base and minimum price will be $2.99.
But hey, I don't mind. The games should be sold for more overall.

Well, I was right, as usual.

Wow that's fucking stupid. You end up paying more to preorder and don't even know what you're paying for, and then you have to wait for them to send the games out... Nty! I'd rather wait till it went public and knew what I was buying, then pay less and get the games instantly. :\

Comment has been collapsed.

Now look here, it's not that simple. There's no countdown to the bundle anymore. If they hadn't told us, we wouldn't even know the day because the more vague date has been replaced by the pre-order link.

It's $1 more expensive than the base price, so depending on when you get in on the deal, it might run you more than $4. Seeing as you don't know the time, it could easily be, like... $7! (gasp)

Even if you decide not to pre-order, have no life and keep refreshing until the bundle's unveiled at $3, there'll be others just like that and the site will probably crash again.

Yeah but at least we won't be committed to something we don't know.

I went on a while ago and the lowest price you could pay was $2.99. They must have literally switched it to 3.99 RIGHT after I got mine.

Are you sure it wasn't 2,99 €? It is for me.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

So, to summarize:

  • They won't tell you exactly when the next bundle launches anymore.
  • The base price of the bundles is increased from $2 to $3.
  • You can pre-order the bundle coming up next for $4, without even vaguely knowing what'll be in it.

Which seems silly. Price I can agree on, because everyone was just paying the minimum and if that's a dollar more on 30k purchases. Great business move.

The pre-order of not knowing what the hell the games are.. wat.

Yeah it's a bit weird. I'm not preordering, gonna wait for the actual content to be revealed. I had no problem getting a fair price last time.

While I don't mind pre ordering it does make me wonder if the games they will be putting up have appeared in other bundles before... I've got almost every humble and royale bundle to date.

Permalink

If the pre-order was at the minimum I would do it, however since it isn't I'll wait, even with the pre-order that just means less people will be buying at launch meaning higher chance of getting it cheaper anyhow.

OK I really think some is going to have to clear up these "conflicting messages" about gifting duplicate codes from Humble Bundles and Royale Bundles. And that is that there isn't a conflicting message: While their TOS and sites say not to share that is probably just the legal people trying to cover any loop holes incase there is a problem later but the personal opinion of the people running both bundles is that you can split up the codes all you like and that they won't enforce the TOS bit relating to the splitting/sharing of keys.

That initial price tweet just seems to be clarifying what we already knew.

No duplicates confirmed? Now that is some good stuff right there.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

From what I see in their TOS, I don't think there are any "conflicting messages".

"You must not: disclose any keys or logins for any Account to any other person; nor allow any other person access any part of the System through your Account." I'm pretty sure, this only means, that you're not allowed to share the account (the key for the whole bundle), but there is no mentioning of the Steam or Desura keys.

However, it says "You must not sell or resell any part of the System or access to it.", but this should not affect giveaways.

All in all, I don't see a problem with giving away the Steam codes to friends or in the forums, but it would mess up the point system, if they were allowed as a normal giveaway.

Edit: Humble Bundles however, specifically state, that it's not allowed to share those keys. "Note: all keys are for your personal use only."

Comment has been collapsed.

"logins" and "account" refer to the key URL to your download page, and "keys" refers to the individual steam and desura keys. The rule is pretty straightforward: Don't give away your used page URL, or individual keys from it.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Well, I'm not a native English speaker, but I'm pretty sure, that with that sentence structure, the "keys or logins" both refer to "for any Account".
To get your meaning they would need an additional comma after "keys".

"You must not: disclose any keys[,] or logins for any Account to any other person; nor allow any other person access any part of the System through your Account."

Just gonna point out what BlueLegion said, also I believe someone did get in contact with one of the people from Humble Bundle and they did they were fine with people giving away spare keys from their bundle if they already had the game(s) even though their TOS says it isn't.
That being said: Steamgifts wants to remain respectable, not tread on toes, not encourage exploitation and remain legally fine so Steamgifts policy is to obey the TOS in regards to giveaways however if you want to privately give a key to a friend that isn't any of Steamgift's business and they won't encourage it but no one will stop you.

Gonna preorder it as a gift, so that if there's no game I'd like, I can give it away here.

Edit: So now I got a gift Email I can forward to the winner if i make a giveaway for it, but they also sent me the key URL in the receipt email. They give the URL to both the gifter and the giftee, which makes absolutely no sense regarding their TOS.

I assume you misread and didn't realise that even after you pre-order you have to wait until release to even find out what you've pre-ordered?

Permalink

I know that. I didn't say I'd find out at the moment of preorder. I'd just like to have it NOW instead of when it comes out (when the servers are overloaded). Paying $1 more is not a problem at all.

You get gamekey's from indieroyale. You can give your mail from indieroyale or just send individual key's from the game to your friends or better jet, post them here in the forum.
I just made a pre-purchase for € 2.95. I'll see what is in the package. If I do not like the games, I just do what I explained here.

Not if you post the key's in the forum, for everybody to grab. Just do not make a giveaway for it.

I didn't say anything about the SG rules, it's against the TOS of IndieRoyale, therefore not allowed ANYWHERE.

In that case, they seriously need to work on the whole public relations thing. In the tweet I've linked to, they said it's ok (but to be precise, they might have been addressing only a situation where you already own that particular game; but still, it's all quite unclear, if what you say is correct).

You should check my reply to your post linking to the tweet I explained the conflicting messages, kinda/sorta.

Well, if the intention of the TOS is to cover their butt, then they really shouldn't use their official Twitter account to send out statements (albeit personal) to the contrary. Otherwise, it looks like this. :-)

(EDIT: Oh. I've just realized that the image wasn't from TOS, but from TNG. But I can't find any suitable Kirk image anyway, so I won't be making another one. :-))

Really Big Sky (which will very likely be in it, hence the title) is not on Steam.

The last bundle had that one game that was on Steam, but not on the Steam store, but as far as I can tell, this one's neither.

No, you know what you are preordering it's not a black box with a question mark. Also there are early reviews of the games alongside gameplay from E3 or similar event online.

Paying for a bundle which you don't know what games are included, paying more to pre-order it when it will be cheaper once released to the public, and then having to wait until the public release to redeem the games. Definitely not worth pre-ordering.

"The point of Indie Royale is to put the spotlight on those indie titles which provide fantastic experiences, but may well have been passed over by a good portion of the mainstream gaming public. If you purchase an Indie Royale bundle, you can be safe in the knowledge that you're not only getting four brilliant indie games - you're also supporting worthwhile developers"
