I know there was one of them anime threads not too long ago, but this one's a bit different.

Okay, so uh.....I just watched the movie "Perfect Blue" for the first time (as my Internet is and was out all day and I had downloaded it a while ago for some reason, arrrr, pirates, though it was so good I may just buy it), and my mind was BLOWN! Never before have I watched a movie that was so mature, and yet not stupid, but also so predictable but also quite shocking in my prediction....and though I doubt there's anything like it out there, that was easily one of the best movies I've probably ever seen, and well, I'd love some more.

I rarely watch anime or anime movies (literally just Perfect Blue and like half of Studio Ghibli's library as a kid), but I feel like this could convince me to get into it. Anyway, as the title says if anyone could list some of their favorite anime movies (and maybe an anime or two- though for that if you just listed good mature-ish ones that'd be great as I know all the popular comedy/action-y ones already mostly; and I seem to like mystery/murder themed animes too, I dunno why but in addition to Perfect Blue I started Higurashi a few days ago and have really liked it so far) that would be fantastic! I'm sure I'm not the only one out there looking for good anime movies too. :D

Also, I hate writing on an iPhone.

Thanks!

The Gundam 00 movie for the gundam fans and the Evangelion movies for general mecha.

Saw Howl's Moving Castle already and actually had gotten The Girl Who Leapt Through Time (as I'd heard it was very good), but when I planned on watching it today (was going to watch that instead of Perfect Blue actually haha), I realized my version was only in Japanese with no subtitles, and I like my movies with English subtitles, so once my Internet comes back on I'll get it with English subs FOR SURE this time. >.<

Also, the more suggestions the better! ;)

Sammer Wars is a nice anime film too.
If you know Ghost in the Shell there should be some films about it too.
Lupin th 3rd's films are also very good and funny.

Mind Game is brilliantly-animated. Barefoot Gen is very old, but interesting for real-world history reasons. Appleseed is one of the earliest anime movies that I watched, and though it's really not very deep, it's fun. Ditto Ninja Scroll. And for something a little off-kilter (but better for Christmastime), there's Tokyo Godfathers.
My own tastes usually lie more towards the high action anime (i.e. Ghost in the Shell series, Black Lagoon), but these were all "good" in the more serious sense (though they're probably also outdated, since I haven't watched any new anime other than the Evangelion reboot in a few years). I wouldn't usually recommend them. Also, +1 to The Girl Who Leapt Through Time suggestion.

Such a ending fitting for an anime, don't you think?

Well, Perfect Blue is over 10 (maybe even 15?) years old, and I loved that, so old movies are nice as well really.

Thanks for the suggestions, will look into them all.

Also Tokyo Godfathers is by the same guy who did Perfect Blue, right? I think I saw maybe 5 minutes of it as a kid and the art looked really similar to Perfect Blue's.

Mind Game is my favorite anime movie of all time. I would kill for a BluRay release. It's hard enough finding a Japanese DVD of it, and the only places that have it all ask for nearly $100.

Not really a big fan of movies based on an anime series as usually you have to have watched the related anime first to understand it.

Pretty much what he said. You don't need to know the series at all, but without knowing Vash and Wolfwood you'll probably lose some meaning.

If you liked Perfect Blue, you should definitely check out Satoshi Kon's other work, like Paprika and Tokyo Godfathers. Paprika is one of my favorite anime films. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aT9wAtCe8Oc

Movies: Ghost in the Shell, Jin Roh, Tokyo Godfathers - fun movie to watch for xmas, Paprika - I hated the movie but many people loved it, so you could give it a try as well.

Anime: Kino's Journey: the Beautiful World (Kino no Tabi) - based on the light novels of the same name, Fantastic Children - highly entertaining and poignant story, and maybe Gunslinger Girl.
