$2 is still better than the 20 cents other stuff is selling for, but still...

:(

Edit - Undercut, now under $2. D:

You say that "foil is worthless" the problem foil is worthless is that people selling cards in market not collecting them and to many cards on market price go down since some idiots who want fast cash lower the prices...same problem is now with booster packs by drop ratio people whine about low ratio of drops if valve change ratio of drops same as foil drop price go down again for booster packs...I think drop ratio of foil and booster must be level trading cards valued ppl who craft many badges get better drops simple you dont craft many badges you got lower drop ratio.Better was when foil drops only for person with lvl 10+.btw sorry for my poor english i think you got my point in this case.

Eh, if you care about having money quickly rather than having more money, then there's no reason not to sell low. Having a couple pennies more won't make much of a difference, but having the money before a daily deal ends or something makes a huge difference.

Steam are attempting to emulate a trading card environment with the new system. IRL, the best cards are won by either a) trading, or b) buying as a random. Limiting the way foil drops works would be exclusionary, and there's too much of that in Steam's system already.

Hey now! I still have mine. lol

But yeah, it's definitely nowhere near as valuable as when the base set was first released. I remember having little kids trying to mug me for mine. Shit was ABSURD.

ETA I guess first edition cards are still going for a bit. HOLY CRAAAP O_O

lol! First Editions do still go for a lot. I know I've looked into selling my old collection a few times and then realised the nostalgia I get from browsing them every now and then is worth more than the £10-50 (depending on market at the time...) I'd get for them. I've got like...Stacks of Mew and Brock's Vulpix promos I stole from magazines around my town back when they used to have them in there :P

You Pokemon thief! lol
I nabbed a handful of non-holo Mew once when I was at a tourney. Dunno how much they're worth, but I like 'em. Goes great with the foil version that I was given for my birthday. <3

I have a ton of promo cards, too. I have a lot of the first promo cards that they released. A full set of the cards from the first movie, a ton of promo Pikachu, and several different types of Mew. Don't think I could ever part with 'em. That shit was my childhood. Good stuff.

Yeah, I made just over 500 selling all my pokemon card game crap. Terrible TCG to play, money for collectors.

It isn't too bad. It's simple to learn, which makes it a good one to play with folks who're newer to TCGs. Sucks when the younger ones feel the need to bend your cards, though. :|
And I have had a bit of fun with it during the few times I've played in small tournaments. Won a few cards, which I sold in order to purchase first edition Team Rocket booster packs, and then I sold a few of the rare cards out of that lot. Made a tidy profit from that! Enough to buy a Playstation and a game or two, if I remember correctly.

But yeah, it definitely lacks the complexity of games like MTG, so I can understand why some folks would hate it.

I remember selling a Faerie Solitare foil for 13 dollars. Now I can't sell a Serious Sam 3 foil for 1,5 dollars (check the market it's still there and nobody cares). They ruined the foil card system by removing level 10 requirement imo.

Yes, but that was still an improvement

From what I heard before, something to do with foil was that it had border=1 in something, so it may imply that valve may add more shinier versions, e.g. golden borders

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

It was only ruined for people trying to gain vast sums of money for a collection of pixels.

For those collecting foils, it's been a very welcome move...

For the record, I've sold everything I've got to date, but you have to admit that there's something mildly absurd about paying $10+ for a virtual item such as this :)

Well what really dropped the price was booster packs. But really all the prices are going to keep crashing unless they add more reasons to collect cards and I don't really think that's a bad thing, it doesn't make sense to be making decent money from just running a game.

I just removed it from the store since one guy was decreasing the price by about 10 cents if he was undercut. At that rate, I'd get nothing either way.

Maybe I'll try taking it on ST later.

I hate it when that happens. I was trying to sell a few genuine quality Deus Ex TF2 items one time, and some douche kept on tweaking their prices when I listed them. Did it to the point where I got bored and decided to mess with 'em. lol And it's even more of a PITA when several people are doing it to you.

After a while of trying to undercut them, I just put my stuff slightly below the cost of the third least expensive item, and left it there. Thankfully it was sold by the time I got back online. I sure as hell wasn't going to lose several bucks just to spite them. :u

It's not all that enjoyable when you undercut someone like that and end up losing out on a lot of potential profit when someone buys your item all of a sudden, which is why I try not to do it too much. And I've only done it to folks who've done the same to me. It is a good deal of fun to feed people's BS right back to 'em. :p

One would think they'd sell for more (that lots of cards would sell for more, at that), it's just mostly the people undercutting by unnecessary amounts and forcing the prices down

I still have one that's worth $13 and the other worth $6.

I can't sell them on the market as my first purchase from the Steam Store was less than 30 days ago, but it looks like there's no restriction on trading items like cards, TF keys, etc so I'm trading them off on SteamTrades.

Wish I knew about this when I first got my foils though, I saw that game tradings were restricted and assumed that item tradings were restricted as well.
