Can you help ?

So i have been meaning to buy a decent gpu for a long time now.Now that i have enough money to buy one, i want to buy r9 290 or r9 290x. But the rumor is that r9 300 series is around the corner.Rumor says that AMD will release 300 series in june. If that is true then it will be released in market around the july. That's a long time wait for me.

So what should i do ? Buy the r9 290x,290 or wait for 300 series ?

i have a 1080p monitor.i am not upgrading to 4k anytime soon in the future.

not a pressing reason.i waited this long.maybe i can wait a few more month.But currently i have no decent gpu. Just built in hd 4400.

but will the 290 will go beyond the price point of 350$ ? Even if the new card come out ? I heard the new 380 or 380x will be a refresh of current series.

If it is that close, and AMD is kicking out the next generation I say wait. The 290 will drop new, but the demand for used ones on ebay will be even more extensive. I have not done a used card in some time, but when I did there was never an issue.
If you absolutely cannot wait, I say 290x. By the time you feel it is no longer holding up the 300 series will probably be a memory.

i don't have any card right now.Another point is some people telling me that 390x or 390 will be a bit of an overkill for my 1080p monitor Is it true ?

Sorry for the belated reply. I don't think I would call it overkill, but it will be capable of handling more. That's a plus though since you may want to upgrade to 4K before you thought you would be able to do so.

I would wait, even if you are not interested in the 300 series, its release should lower the prices of the 290s. Also, since nVidia released GeForce GTX TITAN X(not saying that this one is worth buying unless you have shittons of money), AMD is WAY behind so I expect them to announce something soon. I recommend waiting, but in the end it's up to you as I don't know how bad your current GPU is and what games you want to play and when.

Rumor says that amd will release it's lineup in computex in june.

Yeah, I don't know what to suggest, I am personally waiting myself as I am really fad up with my outdated laptop and I am planning to build a gaming PC this September. As for the price reduction, I think that it's highly likely, but I am not sure what I would if I were in your situation, having no GPU really sucks and waiting til June might be a long time.

that's what bothers me.Even if the new lineup from AMD reduce the price of 200 series i don;t think it will go beyond from where it is right now.

I'm waiting to buy a gpu as well, but I'd never waste 350€ on a 290x right now, the new cards are just around the corner and if they come late the old ones will at least get a price reduction. According to rumors the 370x Could be available as soon as April, so I wouldn't rush things :3

but that's my opinion.

yup.i heard too.But my intention is buying 290x or 290 equivalent card.Like 380 or 380x if it come out. But judging from the rumor AMD will release them in june.

mm they say that about the 390x which will be priced around the value of the nvidia 980, if you need a graphic card right now and willing to spend that much, I'd go with a 970 despite the 3.5 gb bullshit.
I wouldn't feel comfortable with a 290x considering the fact that I'd keep the card for a long time ^^

i have the money.But i am not willing to get the highest tier card when it comes out considering it will be atleast priced around 500-700$.i have just 400$ to spend for the card.The rest i am willingto spend on oculus or vive when they comes out at the end of the year.What should i do ?

I'd suggest waiting to see what the 300 series have to offer and if it's not worthwhile go for 970 or 980
