Show her some adventure games. They are point and click and better than hidden objects games. The longest journey, syberia, telltale games. She might enjoy the nancy drew series too. I played a few when I was younger and they are fun. I usually go to http://www.adventuregamers.com/ to keep track of the newer point and click games. It has a ton of reviews so that site might be more helpful.

As one of those wives, you need to understand one detail. Many casual gamers crack under the pressure of even the possibility of failure. In order to make the transition to core games easier, use something that blends the two together. I got started because of Portal 2. Since I sometimes spend over two hours trying to solve a single room without dying, it makes it easy to know that I will not feel rushed.

Another good way is to go back to your childhood. Even as an adult, I admit that I still like watching cute shows like My Little Pony. Knowing that, something along that style makes it appealing to watch and gradually play. Look at games like Mario and Sonic. With all the bright colors and (sometimes) easy gameplay, it more friendly to play with than harder and more violent games and Gears of War, especially if you can play with the another person.

Make it cute and feel safe, and she should be more willing to expand her horizon.

Have you tried Recettear? It is very good and "failing" just means you had a dream of what you did... and got to keep the loot... :D
Also no dying.

Diaper Dash

Had to. On topic though, if she likes hidden object games, she should try the Mystery Case Files series and Hidden Expedition series. Can't remember more right now.
