i'm not good at searching something like this. already trying to search, find something so close but different case :https://www.steamgifts.com/discussion/c5tlh/giving-false-key-to-a-giveaway

so, Lets say i made a "X" games giveaway. Then i'm accidentally sent the winner a "Y" games Key. because the winner didn't have that "Y" games, ofc Steam gonna automatically activated that game on their account.
So what should i do? should i giving the winner the right key? what about that "Y" games? does steam support gonna revoke that key if i explain?

Edit: thanks for the response guys.
Btw, its not what currently happen to me, i'm just curios about that. i'll take a note about this topic. cause you know, i'm pretty sure someday i'll do the mistake like this.

If you gave the wrong key and they activated it then it's a loss. Valve isn't going to revoke that key for you.

Should you give the winner the right key? You could talk to the person and explain the mix up and see if they will be ok with it.. If they want the game they won you should honor that and give them the key to the game they won.

As far as the person who's game you accidentally gave away.. I would explain what happened and see what they think. Ultimately though you should get a new copy of the game they won and give it to them. Remember none of this is the fault of either of the winners.

In the future you need to make sure you keep better track of your keys and which one is which so it doesn't happen again.

Happened to me last week, mixed up 2 winners, someone got 2 keys, and cost me 100 more coins on tremorgames to get another key for the other person. I always been lucky that Tremorgames still had copies in such cases.
But yeah if it's something more worth it can be annoying, but not much you can do.

Steam support is an oxymoron.

I'd say it's up to you to try and get hold of another copy of the correct game, or else accept a 'not received' mark if that's not possible. The winner would be blocked from some SGtools giveaways if they hadn't activated the game they won. So it would be unfair on them to expect them to mark the giveaway as received.

When the spirit of giving away free games will cost you more because you made a mistake. Even though I agree with it, it just feels kind of harsh to hold some sort of contractual obligation to deliver the game just because you made a mistake (and you're giving away games for free, but I guess Support is also being Support for free shrug)

Bump! I think that you got your answer from previous posts. Sucks really bad but there isn't much you can do :( I hope that the key was for cheap game or you hadn't made a giveaway for it yet. I'm a bit paranoid and always check the key when creating the giveaway and check second time after the giveaway ends, haven't made mistake yet but I'm sure I will at some point.

I just quickly ran through other responses/suggestions.
So you made a mistake, we all make them. Similar thing happened to me twice. Once as the giver and once as the receiver. In first case I gave another key, in second case I received another key.

As for all other involved parties mentioned throughout this discussion. Neither Steam, nor store where you bought the key, nor Steamgifts, nor the winner aret responsible for mistake you made. Expecting Steam or store to revoke the first key, SG to do something or the winner to just give a positive feedback makes no sense. The only one of these 4 that could do something if they wanted to, is the winner. He/She could just give you a positive feedback, since they succesfully activated some game on their account. But that's entirelly up to their good will.

If it was me, I'd apologise for my mistake and give the winner a key for the correct game and that's that.
In the future you might do as I do, check everything three times, before you send anything :D

I once had a duplicate key sent to me, so I contacted the giveaway creator and informed them. They didn't have another key, but instead substituted a different one, which I was perfectly happy with. We then contacted support and had the giveaway removed, resolving the issue. If the winner is happy with what they're given, maybe they'll agree to have support remove them from the giveaway pool. However, if they really wanted the other game, I'm not sure that you could avoid giving it to them. I'd talk to them directly through Steam chat or something and work out a compromise.

Also, I'd never rely on Steam Support for anything, especially something as inconsequential as a game key mix-up. That's only a 5-20 dollar mistake or even less in most cases, which isn't enough for them to care.

Basically from what i understand ... lets say you made Giveaways for Bad Rats and for Skyrim .. and accidentaly sent the Badrats instead of skyrim to the winner .
He doesnt have Badrats so he activated it ...

I guess if the winner dont mind , you could ask support to change the game you given away ... duno any other option . :)
