Someone who made a topic complaining about how a winner of his didn't activate their win and yet hadn't been banned yet.

They don't understand that the Support team has a lot more tickets than just their own to answer.

Yes it is. You claim that user hasn't been punished, they get punished when Support reach your ticket. They have six to eight members working on tickets from hundreds of thousands of users.

i made a support ticket but got no response and (s)he wasn't banned now his steam profile is private and it sucks

tl;dr i dont feel like giving away any game ever again

Sure seemed that way at the time. Anyway, they can still get banned. If need be, CG himself can see Synced games IIRC.

if his profile is private it makes him go public to sync his games list to the site, privateness doesn't matter, they can still tell he didnt activate

i did report it,multiple times, for some reason no thread on my support tab was created but i did report the user through his profiles atleast 3 times in 2 days

The SG+ add-on creates a support ticket instead of a user report when you click on "Report User".

We can't see user reports at the moment, we can only reply to support tickets.

I know, disregard that at the moment, and create a support ticket if you can.

One of your older tickets was done in the SG+ layout, that's why I said it.

if we're disregarding that message why doesnt somebody remove the message or button? its been like that quite awhile right?

Because that's how things were supposed to be. The only reason we can't see user reports at the moment is that we're bogged down with tickets. Once we are up to date regarding tickets, we'll be able to start checking user reports.

User reports must be filed from the support section if one isn't using SG+ (which turns the user report from the profile into a formatted ticket), otherwise the report ends up in the void where nobody (maybe except cg) can ever see it.

Waaaaaaaah Waaaaaaaaah Somebody call the wwaaaaaaaaaaambulance. Seriously, we get it. Someone abused the system by winning a giveaway and then not activating the game (as you mentioned to everyone in a forum post).. that sucks. If you are so fickle as to leave the community because of one person and punish everyone else who was deserving in the previous $510 worth of giveaways you've had, that's fine. Go in peace.

PS. Want revenge? Giveaway the key to the game that person didn't activate.. that way they can't use/trade/sell it.

Yup, exactly this. Find a good, small private group of people you get along with and trust and gift there if you no longer want to gift to the general public.

Either that or set high CV, generally the 500+ CV members respect and stick to the rules.

And day by day SG will have close to zero public giveaways and everyone will have to be to an Elite Group to have the chance of wining something.
Its almost half way there...

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I get what you are saying, and yes it can also be a grind to win a public giveaway just due to the sheer number of people entering, but at the same time it seems silly to judge someone for whatever way they may wish to create giveaways, or worse, try to dictate it. Would you begrudge someone for supporting one charity rather than another because it wasn't to your personal preferences? It's their game, they can do whatever they want with it. They, or anyone else could have given away all the stuff that they gave away here somewhere else and you never even would have been the wiser about it.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Not necessarily an Elite Group. I've been blackballed from basically every one of those, but I've still found a group. And even then, high CV will weed out those entries. So really the only people at a disadvantage are people who won't give away anything besides bundle games. And even then, people will make a giveaway to promote a game or group, so those will be around

Comment has been collapsed.

Look at the replies of this thread, lak3108 is unhappy with the site and is leaving. Posts in the thread by makwy2 and DeltaBladeX are dismissing lak3108's discouragement with the site and favoring the site staff. There is no point in complaining about the site because most of the forum will be against you and the mods will dismiss your claims

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

What claims?

Edit: Sorry, misread that sentence.
We never dismiss user feedback, however, if there's a problem that you're facing, you need to inform us through Support so that we can take action on it.

That's what I'm talking about. It's impossible to give feedback on the forums because you have users trying to speak for the staff and they are usually hostile towards complaints.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I will comment on this to preserve my (already tarnished) good name. I am not "against" lak3108 specifically and I am certainly not "for" the mods. I've posted multiple threads in the past critisizing the site's structure, rules, and yes.. even mods.
<rant>
Here's what I don't like about this kind of "I'm leaving forever" thread:

  1. Are you solving the problem? No.
  2. Are you suggesting a way of fixing/improving the system so your misfortune doesn't happen to others? Nope.
  3. Are you creating a giveaway that SPECIFICALLY encourages the exact same kind of behavior you are leaving the site for? Yup.

So, what's the point of it? A whining tantrum, perhaps? I don't know. It seems immature. That's me. That's my take on it. My opinion. I've been banned for what I thought was an asinine reason and had an extended discussion (read: "heated argument") with Mods about it. I'm not a saint, in fact I'm barely a decent human being but when I see something that I don't like, I speak up. I stand for me, not the site or the mods, or the system, or anybody else.</rant>

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I agree with you about the "leaving forever thread" thing and I wasn't even in the thread that got closed. I do not like the mods at all and hardly ever user the forums out of fear of the mods banning me for "heated arguments." I don't like to see threads that have active discussions closed by mods because someones feelings might get hurt. I think closing of threads and banning of users should be based only on user reports and a more set list of forum rules. The current forum rules "Be considerate of all users at all times related to the site/chat, etc." and no political discussion make it so the mods can do whatever they want. deltabladex's comment is more of the taking the staffs side and speaking for the site staff thing I was talking about.

TL;DR
I hate the forums and most of the users and the mods

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

If you think you were suspended unfairly, please create a support ticket so that we can re-evaluate your suspension. All support members are human being at the end of the day, and mistakes can be made here and there.

I don't recall closing any active discussion thread based on hurt feelings, but feel free to show me if I've done so.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

My suspensions are old news. I don't agree with the mods opinions on how the forums should be run so I just don't post. I know support is not perfect and I am grateful to all support members for the work hey do to keep this great site up and running but that doesn't apply to mods.

There have been threads closed for hurt feelings, that's pretty much every thread that gets closed. Responses like this are why I don't like the mods.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Well, sorry then. I don't know what else I can say. Considering you are separating support members from mods, I don't know what we two mods did that distanced you so much from the forums.

I'd appreciate it if you could provide me some insight, but if you don't want to, I can only hope that it won't happen again in the future.

since steamgifts does synch your profile games, how hard would it be to code it so it automatically bans you if you haven't activated any of your won games ?

Or at least use the system to notify mods whenever it believes a gift haven't been redeemed. It wouldn't be fool-proof, but I believe it'd make things easier, narrowing down the alternatives a bit.

THIS is the kind of post I wholeheartedly support lak.. This should be a thread unto itself. The system isn't perfect and it never will be... but we can always improve it, together! Suggestions, ideas, input, constructive criticism.. that's what turns a "website" into a "community".

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Actually, there have been tons of threads like 'this'.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I suggested an idea like this awhile ago actually. Unfortunately, things are very slow to change here feature-wise. Like, glacially slow. This is the inherent problem with simply dismissing someone's complaint and telling them to just suggest a change to the site. It's impractical if you have reason to believe that it will never happen anyway.

Anyhow, it's probably very feasible given that it already checks your games when syncing. I don't think auto-banning should be the default response though. If anything, have it send an alert to the support staff if someone fails an activated games check.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Unfortunately there's not much that the support staff can do about that. The maintenance of the site is done only by the site administrator. All we can do is to notify him about user suggestions. He's working hard on making a major update on the site, but we don't know when it'll be ready for launch.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Perhaps quarterly updates would help quell the angst of the masses. Every 3 months, the site administrator himself (or through a designated Mod) could give us a glimpse or update as to what is being improved/updated with the site and where things are headed. The problem is that we (normal users) are use to hearing "Yup, we're doing stuff over here.. where you can't see.. be patient" and then not getting results. Just a little communication goes a very long way. Also the update model helps reduce the fury and furor of users after a major update.
