So i saw this on the humble store and i recently started the base game. For those who own the season pass, is it worth it for 3 euros?

I'm pretty sure you can get a better price on steam (when this one goes on sale https://store.steampowered.com/bundle/2355/The_Deus_Ex_Collection/) if you own the old games

A Criminal Past was a really good and fun DLC playing out in a Prison where you're stripped of your augments at the beginning.

System Rift on the other hand felt more like a bigger (but more or less bland) sidemission of the main game...and it's biggest plus was having Francis Pritchard in it. I really missed good characters you'd care about in Mankind Divided like we had in Human Revolution.

Sidenote: Both DLCs are "Jensen Stories" and not integrated into the maingame but instead just started from the main menu.
All in all I'd say you couldn't do anything wrong for 3€

Read reviews

Ever bought a DLC that only allowed you to redeem your items once?
Not once per save file. Not once per new game.
Just once and never more.

OH, and BY THE WAY, if you ever redeem your bonus items, your save file becomes locked to your installation. What does that mean? It means if you ever reinstall the game; Install on another machine; or even just change the installation directory from steam; Then your save file won't work anymore.

Not even joking. This is the brave new world of save file DRM people. Talk about making steam cloud useless.

Surely they've fixed that by now...

Ugh, perfect example of how DRM is anti-consumer. I finished Mankind Divided, and considered the deal until reading this. No thanks, Square!

If you own all the other Deus Ex games on Steam already, you can get a better deal on Steam when it's on sale, as part of the complete your collection promo. It goes on sale fairly often, so I suggest you wait, unless you really want to play it now.

The bonus item system is beyond terrible; however, you actually never need them, not even on the first attempt.

The hardware requirements are through the roof even by today's standards. Ironically, Nvidia cards are almost unable to run it in DX12 mode (you lose ridiculous amounts of framerate), despite Nvidia claiming to support DX12 for years. On AMD, it works and boosts framerate a bit, but results in glitches that require you to do a save/reload every 5 minutes.

Gameplay is more or less a copy-paste of Human Revolution, only you have exactly one city now (instead of two) and almost all levels are not-so-subtly trying to tell you to play the game as a shooter instead of stealth. You do not even get berated or an XP penalty for murdering literally everyone, which is kinda going stark opposite of all other Deus Ex games.

The story has two main and two smaller threads, and only one main one gets any resolution, the others are left hanging.

Despite all of these, I loved the game, mostly just playing it. Some levels are astonishing and if you resist the urge to follow the game's shooty-shooty way, they can be rather complex. (Although you still can just spec into speed and stealth and literally run past everyone on full alert on the highest difficulty, assuming you know where the exit is.)
The story DLCs are great, although most anyone will only remember the Criminal Past, which, if you want to get all achievements, is the most difficult game associated with the Deus Ex franchise.

So, yes, by all means, buy it, but expect low fps and to never get a full closure on the story.

You never get penalized in the first two Deus Ex for taking the violent path. In Human Revolution you get less XP than making the stealth path, but i wouldn't call it a penalization. Besides, it's in the spirit of the game letting the player choose their own preferred path, be it stealth, violence, hacks or something inbetween.

You actually get penalised in the first game; both Paul Denton and Carter refuse to give you some ammo/items if your kill count gets over a certain threshold.
Never sure about DX2. I really should actually finish it once. Maybe eventually. But I recall it having rather branching paths and option lock-outs depending on your play style and actions.

You get two extra gas grenades from Paul from taking the violent path. Carter refuses to give you... 5 bullets. Wow.
In DX2 taking the violent path rewards you with an extra weapon that is otherwise obtained much later.

Deus Ex 2 is definitely a disappointing followup to the best game ever and is a perfect example of consolitis. The UI is horrible and most of the levels are small and linear. However, the game itself really is not that bad. There are tweaks to make the UI smaller and less intrusive on PC, and it had It did have some levels that were more open that were good. The story and the gameplay were enough to keep me going.

There was one thing I thought DX2 did better than the original. It has a better faction system than the original. In the original, I was a little disappointed that you don't make the choice of who to side with right up until the end of the game. In DX2, if you do too many missions for one faction while ignoring the others, the other factions become openly hostile to you. You can try to keep them all happy or pick one faction early on and screw over the rest. But, in true Deus Ex style, right at the end of the game you can change your mind and go with another, even if they hate you. They're still hostile to you, but once they realize you're helping them, the leader contacts you and says they've ordered their people to stop being hostile and help you. I was actually surprised they put that little bit of detail in there.

I've played through DX2 twice, once stealthy and once guns blazing. I've played the original game probably a dozen times and bought it half a dozen times. I bought the original on CD at release, then like an idiot I traded it for another game. Later I wanted to play it, so I bought it again. I bought the GOTY at release, which was the 2 disk version with the sound track CD, but somehow I lost the disks during a move. I still have the box though. I was itching to play it again, so I bought the GOTY a 2nd time from eBay. It came as just one disk in a jewel case. I thought I had been cheated, but found out that the later GOTY releases lacked the sound track. I think I traded my original DX2 box and disk, but I have also bought them both on GOG and Steam.

Fuck, now I want to play Deus Ex again. The curse is true.

That's why I've bought and played it so many times. I don't have to re-install it though, I think it has been permanently installed since the last time I bought it on CD, and the Steam version has been installed since 2010 when I bought it on Steam.

The DLC's have worse performance? Because i run the main game on a steady 70-80 FPS. Thanks for the insight though! I think im gonna buy it :D

They usually run better. One is megasmall, one has a city area that may lag but you do not actually do any combat there. It has a giant internal map though, so you may get some hiccups, but I generally had no issues. The prison one is usually mid-sized chunks, nothing drastic.

I haven't played System Rift yet but The Criminal Past so far is pretty great, very challenging and fun but going 100% no augs make it a bit too hard. I tried but I died so much so I think I'll replay. I don't care for the bonus stuff so I had lots of fun with it, well worth the money. Definitely get it especially if you like DXMD (or if the game's price on Steam for your country for some reason is double the original US price like mine, thanks a lot Square Enix).

Sounds fun! I bought it :) I've heard of the currency differences, it sucks :( Are some games cheaper too or are all of them more expensive?

Most games are actually a lot cheaper, about half the original price whΓch is great. It's just some publishers set their new games much more expensive like Square Enix or Bandai Namco, but I can get them from other sites and bundles so I'm generally happy with the regional price (not my wallet though).
