So my internet is weird and lags to hell when more then 3 computers are on and my little brother's have no idea computers work and seem to think the amount of things downloaded on my computer correlates with the internet lagging even though I'm not running the programs and they reported me for scamming? Would this affect my account in any way?

fyi: downloading can effect your web browser loading speed also sometimes if my router downloads a lot it gets lagy and i need to reset or unplug it for a sec and it'll download better.

Don't you mean "affect" rather than "effect"?

If you or your brothers are downloading torrents, turn them off or heavily limit the number of incoming and outgoing connections they allow.

Also, using apostrophes incorrectly will make your internet lag. Correct grammar and punctuation serves as grease in the tubes.

There's a few things I would clarify.

  1. The Internet never lags, only your connection to it. That is handled by the ISP(Internet Service Provider).
  2. Ask your idiot brother to read a book about Internet for dummies or something like that.
  3. Is your quoted part of "...and they reported me for scamming?" a question?
  4. What account do you mean?

Internet can lag, or at least some ISP's part in it. Less so nowadays...

1 decade ago

Internet can never lag. Only devices in it can.
Anyway, most of the problems with lag is mainly related to ISP.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Internet is devices in it and connections between these devices...

Yes, but it's one hella big network. With such a network size, you can't expect the entire network to lag. Therefore, when I say the Internet can't lag, I mean the whole network. Some parts of it at times can go down, and "distances" between devices can differ, but the network itself can never lag.

It could... But not anymore and it used to though...

And even now I think if some group with right access could mess up it very badly...

That's old indeed.
As for your second part with right access, sure they can, but the segmentation is way too much trouble for them.

You just need admins of Tier 1 operators to start messing up with BGP... ;D

Not that it's very realistic threat...

that will happen when a admin of a tier 1 ISP began to use rip v1 :P

Easy, install stealth applications to control their computer, when you feel lagging login in your pc and check what are they doing on their pcs and proceed

No, cause that's plain illegal. You can justify it all you want, but you'll be punished by the law if you get caught.

Punished by law for fooling around with his lil-bro's computer ? What.. Judge Dredd is gonna drop bye ?

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Because that's infringement on other people(s)' privacy. While Judge Dredd won't drop "bye", a police officer will though.

1 decade ago

I dunno where you live but no Police is gonna drop bye unless his brother places a formal complaint about this.. which he would be quite an asshole to do so.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

No, the asshole would be the one installing software on computers belonging to other people. It's not yours, so why should you be allowed to install stuff on their's?

Wow I can tell you come from a very close knitted family.. do you even have brothers or sisters?

My brother did things way worse than that to me.. I didn't call the cops on him. And neither did my older brother when we were sneaking in his room to use his Commodore-64. You're getting pissed over nonsense brandishing the 'law' as your argument over brotherly feud.

Brotherly feud is not the same as privacy infringement. Get your facts right.

So you would sue your own brother for theft if he borrowed something of yours without your consent.. or even ask for a compensation thru a jury because he roughed you up a lil, maybe even ask for a jail sentence while you're at it.

A nail gun is not the same as a pillow.. There's one of those I wouldn't use against my brother.

Your argument is kinda empty but I'm the one who needs to get my facts right.. -.-

if he merely borrowed a stuff and never modified stuff which is in it, that's pretty ok with me. However, if he borrowed something and modified it, like installing a keylogger or taking the ink cartridge of a pen, I would definitely ask him for a compensation.

Do you have any torrent software or like running on any computer?

At least on ADSL the heavy uploading will make other traffic lag. If so you should use some sort of upload limiter.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

  • Reset the router
  • Put a download limit on steam, it tends to suck up all the bandwidth.

If those don't work contact the ISP or get a new router :)

  1. Make a fist
  2. Let your index and middle finger stand out, side by side
  3. Lick the undersides of those fingers
  4. Hold your brother's arm with your other hand
  5. Slap his arm with your fingers really hard.

That should teach him a lesson. Worked with my brother.
