Hello everyone! After a couple of weeks spent learning how SG works, I'm here in order to introduce myself properly. I see that this nice community likes trains, thus creating one seemed the best way to do it. I also want to build a nice train, to celebrate the fact that this autumn I will start my PhD fellowship in Physics!!! :D And finally I will start to have a budget :P

Well, getting back to trains... I really like going on holidays and traveling by trains, this is a kind of journey that has a special charm, especially on some particular routes. You can see amazing landscapes passing by, and meet different people.
The Orient Express is on my holidays-to-do-list: it crosses so many different lands and cultures, it really stimulates my imagination. But maybe I'm also influenced by the book written by Agatha Christie.
What do you think about trains? Do you like them? Did you have any interesting/adventurous experience traveling around the world? Is there any route you totally advise to take?

Here is the link to the train. I hope you'll enjoy it!

Trains are cool, much cooler than plains.. my dream would be to ride the trans-Siberian slow train to China... there is this giy who has a Web site on train travel, I cannot recommend it enough seat61.com and if you want to roll all over Siberia here is his info: https://www.seat61.com/Trans-Siberian.htm
And thank you for the train, and Skyrim, and potatos !

That is a huge and extremely interesting journey, it is on my list too, thus I will add to favourites the website you suggest :D
Do you know also Trans-Siberian branches, like the Trans-Mongolian train (still ending in China), or the extension of the Trans-Siberian that brings you down to Vietnam? How many fascinating routes!

And about Skyrim and potatoes, you're welcome! ;)

And also a branch going to Vladivostok, and you can take a ferry to Japan from there :) Unfortunately, this all costs quite a lot :(

Yeah, totally it is a huge investment of money and time. For now let's just dream... But in the end they must be done! And for the following 10 years, no holidays at all to recover money :P

There better be rings involved. If I ever got a fellowship without some I'd be mightily disappointed!

If I may ask, what field of physics are you working in? I've done some radio-astronomical research a couple of years ago.

Thank you! I am a particle physicist, but for this PhD program I will start to cohoperate with engineers and biologists, in order to study the possible application of nanoparticles to living cells, making them photosensitive... Quite different, but quite interesting as well ;)

Welcome! I enjoyed shadows of mordor on both ps4 and pc :)

You're welcome! I really liked it too (mainly I liked the fact that it is not faithful enough to Tolkien's writings), and I'm waiting for a huge price drop to also get the sequel. I'm in no hurry, as it would probably not work on my pc right now XD

Good luck with your PhD! Don't know what to say about trains, I don't have much travel experience and by train only two times (not the most pleasant trips), so probably my attitude towards them is neutral.
