The developer says: it's gonna be like Gothic or Risen.
Range was always balanced, because every fraction got their own style like bows, magic or guns in Risen.
I don't think it's gonna be the biggest problem in ELEX.
I just hope the game is not going to be bugy like Gothic 3 and they improve the animations, because they look just like 2005.

Gothic was one of my first big RPG's played, loved it, and still do, it was also higly advertised on magazines and given to purchasers for free, which was a great idea, Italy here btw.

I think the game gonna be epic. Setting is awesome, the game is big, the game is long. It's like Gothic 2 + Fallout.
Well the graphics are looking like Gothic 3 or Fallout, means they are not that good... But if they replicate the atmosphere from Gothic 2 then the game will be one of the best ever made.

I am not really a fan of RPG's using game size as a selling point anymore. Too many of those disappointed with filling the big world with interesting content. I gladly take a smaller world that is filled with good content than a big world that feels rather empty or has the same tasks over and over again.
And like you said, replicating the atmosphere from Gothic 2 and creating interesting characters that you care about will be key.

Because publishers manipulate you with 'hype' . If you spot a nice game being developed or announced - thats cool. Keep an eye on it it might just be good. But then people start going like ' omg bist gaem evir ' before even playing demo or alpha at that you get shit like No Man's Sky. Stupid as fuck.

Probably, but I have one problem with that. If I install that mod, it's incompatible but the translation mod who works also with the expansion. I wonder if my current english would be good enough to understand Gothic 2 in english, tho. You gave me a good idea and it would be good to check

Let's see how it works out, since Gothic was awesome (except Part 4, that one was terrible :3). It certainly looks good and I had it on my WL for some time now. Oh, and on a sidenote fuck all those cringe-worthy nonsense brabbling fuckboi Lets-Players, they're annoying as hell... I wanna see a game without mind-bendingly stupid commentary ruining the whole thing :x.

Technisch und Grafisch erwarte ich auch kein Meisterwerk. Man sieht an den Videos ganz gut, dass die Grafik sogar eher in Richtung Gothic 3 oder der Fallout-Reihe mit kleinen Updates (z.B. Vegetation) geht. Trotzdem glaube ich, dass die Welt Stimmungsvoll wird und das Spiel von den Charaktären und der Umgebung leben wird.
Wer sich das Spiel mit der Absicht eine Revolution kauft, ist sowieso fehl am Platz. Wir müssen realistisch an die Sache gehen und erkennen, dass es Gothic in einem neuen Setting wird. Mehr wollen die alten Fans aber auch gar nicht. Hauptsache die Welt ist gut aufgebaut, stimmungsvoll, nicht zu leer und die Story macht mit den Charaktären einigermassen Sinn.

True, it was good add-on. But it wasnt a whole Gothic. And pirates was in Risen (I liked this game). In Risen 2 and 3 it was a main theme. I just do not like ships, jungles, heat... and pirates (most of the time).

I played it at PAX East last year. It's basically Risen but it has guns and jetpacks.

It was exactly the same. The risen series never saw much improvement and I don't think this game will see much over the course of it's production since last year. But that was how the game played. I didn't even know what the game was and after 10 minutes I looked at the guy and said "This feels exactly like Risen but with guns." And the guy looks at me and says "Well we made Risen too so that's probably why."

I won't buy it anytime soon but I'm absolutely certain I will at some point. This is exactly my type of game and if it's even half as good as its predecessors it will be great. I've lost count of how many times I've started playing the games in the Gotic and Risen series :)
Edit: I might actually buy the game early just to show my support for this developer and genre. The only thing I'm not so hyped about is the uhm... science fiction theme. Might turn out good though, Mass Effect is one of my all-time favourite games after all :)

I played Risen 3, and felt like i'm replaying Gothic 2 for 6th time.
So I don't think I will buy it, if they will leave again the same moving animations, enemies and collecting seashells ;P

this game is mainly developed by 30 people from germany.
they are not focused on good graphics, animations or technicle aspects.
Gothic is all about the world, the atmosphere and the characters. Thats why we in germany love this games and thats why i am so hyped for elex.
Risen 3 was the worst game by them, elex is much much better.

I do really like Gothic 1 and 2. (Gotfhic 3 was bad).
But it doesn't mean that I need to like next games that feel-like-gothic just because studio behind it is small. Just like everyone else (except die-hard fans) will think.
Risen 3 was better than Risen 2. Esp when we look at combat system and ridiculous last boss from Risen 2 xD
And you can't say anything about game quality before it's released. People were super exited about Fallout 4 and it turned how it turned. At best average.

I just can look over some bugs or animations, because i know the Studio is small.
So it does not hurt that much.
I actually played a few minutes Elex on the Gamescom this year.
I saw just a little part of the world, but the new features seem very good and the game feels very good.
Graphics, animations and the technic is bad. Okay, i give you that point. Thats what I see too.
But for me Gothic was always more than this. And thats why i am hyped.
Anyway, I don't want to say who has to like or dislike this.

While I haven't played either Gothic 1 or 2 (and just a bit of 3) I really like in the Risen series how you can approach situations differently depending on your skills.
I expect the same in Elex.
Combat, animations, story and graphics won't be the best around but I reckon everything will nicely come together to make it enjoyable to RPG fans.

Put some Mods on it from "World of Gothic" and the games will be awesome.

Edit: I really liked Gothic 3 but those bugs. Didn't save regularly enough so even though the fans patched the game (!) I would have had to go back 50 hours to avoid a bug that meant I didn't get the (near)perfect ending.

Gothic 1 and 2 are cult classics, where the fuck did you get that Piranha Bytes was known for Risen?? Risen's claim to fame was that it was basically an unofficial sequel to Gothic III (the last Gothic developed by Piranha Bytes) because PB lost the rights to the Gothic IP for a while. During that time some other company (Spellbound, of Desperados fame. "Fame".) developed "Arcania: Gothic 4", which was received poorly, especially by Gothic fans and when Piranha got hold of the IP again, the Gothic 4 subtitle was dropped from the title. End of history lesson.

Hej guys, I was watching some random stuff on Youtube and found a game called "Elex" by excident.
One of the developers was showing it to "Gronkh" who played it (it's the biggest Let's Player in germany) and i got hyped as hell.
I don't know if someone knows Gothic, because I think the game Piranha Bytes got known for is actually Risen.
At least I want to say PLEASE play Gothic 2, it's freaking awesome.
But anyway, I saw "Elex" and got hyped, because the setting is just epic and I got the feeling from Gothic.
I can't say much about the game, because I just discovered it today, but I think it will be awesome.
Do you know something more about the game and are you hyped too ?
