I've been looking for good movies to watch lately. Anyone know of some movies that a person just has to see once in their life? There are a lot of great movies I have not seen, but I never seem to know about them or think of them when looking for movies to watch. So what do you think are movies you just, have to know about? Or simply got any really good movie recommendations?
Thanks in advance! :)

How... Would you rate your intellectual capacity?

If relatively high and you are able to understand complex moral concepts. "No Country For Old Men" or "Sunshine Express". All the movies I see listed here by other people are just your typical action/comedy/drama. If you want something more, something that will have you thinking long after, watch one of the two I have mentioned. They are movies I will never forget.

A Beautiful Mind, Interstellar, Inception, Shutter Island etc. are just random dumb-entertainment for you? See, this is why we can't be friends.

To be fair I did a lot of skimming, first two are great Shutter Island I had all figured out in the first 15min when they went through the gate in the beginning of the movie.

As soon as I read Lord of the rings trilogy EE I died a little inside... Movies are like 40 hours a piece, then they have 6 hour forced intermissions. Just read the damned books they're better anyway lol.

EDIT: I'd personally replace Shutter Island with The Number 23, (Considered one the worst films of all time) I consider it one of the best films of all time. Pure genius, but I'm not going to recommend it to someone that might not get it, at least the first two there's a good chance he/she can understand it.

You liked Interstellar?

Yeah it wasn't the most intellectual movie per se it resonated with me on a different level. This may sound kind of awkward but for crying out loud I do have a thread going on about mental illness right now lol. Most of my father figure do's and don'ts have come from movies, because all of my examples in real life have been terrible. So I've learned what not to do, then I've watched movies to see fathers with the desire to do anything to save their family. Like John Q for example. I won't go into details here in case OP wants to see it but he was a pretty good father I think, even if his decisions were questionable at times.

EDIT: In case OP is reading this far I also highly recommend fight club, action and intellectual. And nudity!

It didnt sound awkward at all, It was entertaining, but overall I didnt liked it, and yes it tried really hard to be intellectual and had notions that weren't true at all, and it was a bit of predictable, and also not the best performance by Matthew McConaughey and the movie had way too much filters, even Nolan agreed with that after the movie was released.. but it had much more potencial imo
Thats really sad to hear, if you think you are doing a good as a parent that must be a great goal for you (:

Fight Club is +1 , the book is +1000

The only kind of parent I am currently is a furfather :) though since I am sexually active I have always told myself to be prepared for the responsibilities that come with it, even though I don't necessarily want kids (I do want to adopt when I'm WAY older). So I don't want to be completely unprepared with no idea what to do.

LOTR is one of the few cases where I find the movie substantially better than the books. And this is from someone who rarely watches movies and read a lot of books. Tolkien is one of those authors, I've found, who works best when he needs to impose limitations on himself (like when he tries tow rite for a younger audience), something that he did not really do in LOTR.

For me, I use 123movies.to. The site has pop up ads but that's all. Passing through the initial pop ups, just stream free movies. Also the site regularly updates which I think is an uncommon benefit for a free streaming service.

Yeah, I know about it but for good movies I like watching in HD and make sure it doesn't have any dropped connections or anything. By "buy" I actually meant rent which looks like it's only 4$... Hell it's only 6$ to buy if you highly recommend it I may as well just buy it, I have a collection of movies already one more wont hurt.

the concept to Shutter Island, has been done a couple of times already. For me it was predictable because i've seen the same idea before

I wasn't allowed to watch Beavis and Butthead growing up, everyone made a big deal about it and piled in the living room and made me go to the bedroom by myself. When I was able to watch it later on because basically no one could stop me it was okay. Had some funny parts, the movie is by far the best in the series. They kept talking about bringing it back but never did aside from a few commercials.

One of the shocking things about Pan's Labyrinth is the actor who played the sociopathic facist officer had only done comedy up until then.

An amusing trivia is that in the original Spanish language version of the film, Pan is played by an English actor who doesn't understand Spanish and just memorized the lines by ear to give it an unnatural cadence and pronunciation.

If you like comedies you have to watch the cornetto trilogy !

The World's End is one of the best movies I've seen. I really like the work of Edgar Wright.. it's just different from all the standard american comedies. So I'd also reccomend Scott Pilgrim vs. the World

Other movies I really like are New Kids Turbo and Nitro but I think they are only available in dutch and german :/
