Ok maybe I am trusting people to fast... but I just got scammed again out of a key... is there anything i can do beyond insisting someone else "goes first" ? This guy had 2 pages of +rep on his steam so I figured he was for real... I noticed after the trade he only has 6 games on his steam.. which is weird I guess thinking about it... I know I won't see my game back, but I want him punished, he'll keep on doing it with others... Here is the chatlog... I already had a feeling something was "off".. the way he said "ok ok, if you don't want, it's fine"... but the good trusting guy I am I went ahead and give a key..

NEVER EVER trust rep on his steam profile. He can always delete negative comments. He has probably scammed 20 persons and they have put -rep on his profile and he has deleted it. Only trust steamtrades and steamrep.com

Censor the chat, or else it's considered calling out. (Censor their name)

Ofc I am calling out ? You tell me I have to pretect the identity of a scammer ? I want his name known so people don't get scammed again by him :(

Yes, report him where Raik said below. Calling out on SG is against the rules and could get you in trouble, which we don't want to happen. :c

But does not the steamgift rule on calling out only aply to users on steamgifts?
If I start whining about Obama, I am pretty sure I wont be banned for calling him out.

As people already said, you didn't even check steamrep.com.
Didn't even check how many games he had on his account before going first with a key? And you were already scammed once?

I guess some people don't really learn from their mistakes... :p Hey, at least it wasn't anything expensive.

Who cares ? if I can't trust someone for 50 cents, how on earth can I trust anyone for anything.. again I don't give a *** about the game. It's just about the principle and the fact I now feel I can't trust anyone.

Well "someone" needs to go first :( I normally already am sceptical and try to let the other guy go first. And steamrep won't help me.. Im pretty sure he just rotates (creates new) steam accounts every once in a while.. :(

Well, there are middleman services for a reason.

Being sceptical doesn't help if you're not cautious. Install Enhanced Steam as ND1Razor suggested below and you'll get steamrep, steamtrades and steamgifts links on the profile page. Always check them, don't pay attention to +reps on steam profile and if someone offers you something that's worth way more than your stuff then either make them go first or pepare to be scammed. Also people who randomly add you are usually just trying to scam you (there are exceptions but not many).

I think you were just really hoping you could trade $1 worth of bundle keys for Metro LL and then was disappointed.

ofc I am dissapointed.. so you mean, if a key can be obtained cheap, it's allright to go scam people for it ? Ok I'll remember that then... if this is what the community feels is 'your own fault'... maybe I have to make a fake steam account myself... :(

No, it doesn't make it okay, but I think you let your greed put you into a bad position. But yes, when you don't bother checking to see if a person is legit before offering up a key, it is your fault when you get scammed. Profile rep means absolutely nothing, if the person doesn't have reputation on the big legitimate trading sites, steamtrades, sourceop, etc, then I absolutely refuse to do any trades unless they're gift for gift. Even then its possible to be scammed with games purchased with stolen credit cards, but you reduce your risk greatly. It's hard for me to sympathize for you when you state you've already been scammed in the past.

It's indeed about the principle... I don't care to much about the game.. I never even heard of steamrep.. but I am 100% sure the steam account he scammed with is not his real steam account... he most likely got a "main" account where he activates the keys on..

Ok I'll remember that then... if this is what the community feels is 'your own fault'... maybe I have to make a fake steam account myself... :( It's not my job to tell someone "hey i don't agree to this trade, it might be unfair to you"... normally two parties agree to a trade, and if one doesn't come through, he is at fault. Not the other party.

This is an extremely childish thought. You live in a world where everyone is ready to step on each other for just a little bit of personal gain and you werent born yesterday so you should be aware of that, yet you chose to trust this guy instead of checking out everything you can about him. Whose fault is this?

And really who would trade a Metro LL key (Even if he got it for free) for Dirt 3 or Alan Wake which was a bundle game a few days ago? Let this be a lesson to you (for the 2nd time) because no one can help you in this matter. He's already known as a scammer on Steamreps.

I agree. Also, if I were trying to trade Alan Wake for the new metro I'd feel like a scammer myself.

Don't trust steam profile comments. He could've just made new accounts and commented to give him good rep and delete the negative ones.

If something feels off about the deal, call it off, you're only going to save yourself. Maybe miss a sweet deal, but that'll come again eventually.

Don't ever trust profile rep, and better remove the link or censor the name, no calling out.

If you trade your keys for real money you should only accept paypal and the buyer should go as first because with paypal he could create a protest to get his money back. But you should recording the steam transaction and write down in the chat what the deal is... So if you have done a trade and the buyer create a protest on paypal you can send them a video as evidence that you have send him your keys.

I good way to lose only a half of you items you should split your trade in two trades.
