I gave away a copy a week ago, and I received it from a Fanatical "Bonus Scratchcard." During their spring sale, you'd get a scratchcard if you spent $12 or more.
I don't want to assume anything, but if I were forced to guess, I would say that's where all those game keys came from.

oh, amen to that. don't know what they did to you, but any reason to hate paypal is a good reason. however maybe it'd be worth to turn a blind eye to that to enjoy those juicy Fanatical deals? honestly most of my keys come from fanatical nowadays. they're hard to beat in a discount game...
Besides I think they also offer Google Pay, is that not a option either?

Long story that I don't care to repeat. Ended up badly on their fault and I don't have access to an account there anymore.
