I had a BFG NVIDIA GeForce 9800GT video card for about 4 years. On Saturday, I was using my computer and I heard a pop and my screen went black. At first, I thought that my monitor had messed up. After trying another monitor, I realized that wasn't the problem. I then turned off my computer, opened it up, and started it back. This time sparks went flying, the computer shut itself off, and smoke started rolling. I unplugged it quickly, to be on the safe side, and looked around the origin of the sparks. I removed my video card to see several prongs that were completely black. I take apart the only spare computer I have with me, and remove the video card. Sadly, it was a AGP card and I didn't have a port for it in my current computer. I rapidly ordered a EVGA NVIDIA GeForce GT 640. It arrived just about an hour ago. I can't tell any difference on the performance side of things, probably because the old one never had any problems with that. However, this one runs much cooler, like ~20C cooler.
TL;DR: I got a new video card because my old one fried.
