I know new Steam rules went into effect about a week/ week and a half ago. When I read the description I don't remember seeing anything about needing the mobile authenticator to list things on the market, I just remember the primary change was that there was now 15 day holds if you dont use SMA. My (apparently mistaken) understanding was that nothing would really change if we used the mobile authenticator.

Now, there is such a need. I looked briefly at the mobile auth settings but didn't see a switch for listing. Is this now the new norm, where I'll have to confirm everything on my phone or is this something I can turn off without completely disabling mobile auth?

It's obligatory now. Sadly.

Man. It's going to take at least twice as long to get through all this now. I'm glad I stopped adding games from bundles simply because they had cards... Would probably add at least another 50% to what I have to get through. Oh well, it is what it is.

You don't have to confirm everything on a phone actually... instead just use Winauth (beta version) or Steam Desktop Authenticator which both have an auto-confirm feature.

+1000

I'm not a computer wizz but I got the Steam Desktop Authenticator download link from a SG user and with my limited software knowledge I downloaded and installed it (install instructions are on the download link) and instead of what I had (EVERY item I put on the Steam market got 15 days in the Steam prison) I can now with a very minimalistic effort put things on the Steam market just in SECONDS by using the Steam Desktop Authenticator.

I find seconds much better than 15 days Steam prison! ^ ^

Steam did that in order to improve security.... Let me cry.... I don't want to download a useless app --"

I strongly disagree with steam this time...

I mean I get the overall security concerns. But I don't see how this helps. If my account is in good standing/ has no history of fraud/ I'm selling from a computer I've validly logged into from the Steam app itself... It seems pointless to me to make users in that position pay for scammers' actions.

Then again, while not ideal a few extra seconds really isn't the end of the world. Still gonna complain about it though :)

We will see these months if it is really useful...

Complaining is easier than being comprehensive haha ;)

It's either this, or keep receiving thousands of emails a month complaining about getting items stolen. They could give you an "I understand I will NOT receive support if my items were to be stolen by disabling the trade hold", but honestly 95% of people would still come to steam crying.

I can see why they did this.

I definitely do too, but I just think a blanket application to everyone isn't necessarily the way to go. But you're right. While this isn't ideal for the customer it's probably the easiest way for Steam to handle it

Yes, I think you are right... But I think they did too much : people have to download their app... I don't think it is good for the customer. In economy, we call that a "captive demand strategy" ( I don't know if I write it right, I am french so sorry )

Well we (you) can use the windows alternative and auto accept from there.

At this rate next you'll need mobile authentication for chatting, mobile authentication for starting a game, mobile authentication for writing a review, mobile authentication for posting in forums and so on

Sorry, you need to authenticate with the Steam Mobile App before you can post this comment.

This change is orthogonal to mobile auth; if you use email confirmation you also need to confirm every listing now.

Their "protection" is worthless (I only sell steam trading cards, not expensive CS:GO skins), but I used idlemaster to get as many cards as possible before the change and I still have a ton of cards listed on the market (hit my 200 cap, though...) that are still filling my steam wallet. With it, I got SonicDX and I'm at about three dollars. Hopefully for something good.

Yeah I'm trying to clean my idling now to prep for the summer sale. The last time I farmed was just before the winter sale and it covered my entire sale purchase, two $5 gifts to friends and I still had some money left over in my account. Should be the same come summer sale as I have over 70 games to idle. But with the timing requirements and this requirement, I'll probably finish just in time lol

I'm hoping to have a few bucks in my steam wallet to cut down costs of a (no particular one) wishlist game when it goes on sale. It'd be nice if I didn't also have to give tax information (I do not have) and whatnot just to sell more trading cards for a couple cents, but I understand why they do that, so I won't complain or get into it.

I'll just say I'm glad I can sell cards at all to put towards games... but that mobile authenticator isn't gonna work for me since I don't use a smartphone.

A pity.

Others have mentioned alternatives in this thread. Steam Desktop Authenticator, for one. But I'm hoping for the same.
