Other than the original GTA demo, GTA San Andreas was the first one I played. I have the original disk version, and later bought GTA Complete pack on Steam (before GTA IV came out), which included GTA 1, 2, III, Vice City and San Andreas. I tried playing GTA III and Vice City, but the controls are horrible and I eventually gave up. In GTA: SA and up, you can use your mouse while driving to turn the camera, but in III and VC it's fixed. For me this makes driving a pain as the camera lags behind your turns. The mouse also has some bad acceleration in it that makes shooting impossible.

That pack was a lot cheaper just a few weeks ago on greenmangaming.. I got it for 4€ (5.5$?) and I'm currently (re-)playing GTA III.
Yeah maybe if it wasn't for the nostalgia I wouldn't like it SO much, but it's still ok imho. Never played VC and SA yet so can't say, but I look forward to them.

If you're OCD about the games on your account like me, keep in mind that this adds multiple entries for each of the three games. One for each platform (Windows and Mac). It almost made me regret the purchase, so messy to have multiple copies of the game sitting in the list... and it doesn't even specify which entry is which platform.
Personally, GTA IV spoiled me to the point where I can't sit through the older ones anymore... but if you're the type to look past the dated graphics and physics, they're still great games.

Definitely worth it if you aren't focused on graphics like most kids these days. The stories and mission of GTA III and Vice City are really awesome in my opinion. It lacks in gameplay here and there but it's worth it. San Andreas is fun too and has a huge map, but personally I didn't like the story that much. As for music, GTA III was incredibly awesome, Vice City was nice too, San Andreas again rather meh I think. But taste is different. But you definitely can't make a mistake at that price. You can get a lot out of those games when you use mods too.

San Andreas is still my favorite GTA, I think its worth it for that alone.

Currently, you can get GTA III + Vice City + SA for PC for only $7.50 on Amazon.
I already own GTA 4 and SR3&4. Would it be worth it to get the old games, or do they not stack up to GTA 4/SR Series? No nostalgia bias please, just as unbias an opinion as possible.
