Title says it all, it would also be better if the site has a wide range of songs and must have most classic rock songs.

Depends where you live actually. Some places it's only a civil law problem since it's a copyright issue.

How so?

And I said I need a site where I can download "free mp3s", not "free download" mp3s.

Well there's a distinction between downloading mp3s for free and downloading free mp3s. One is pirating, one is downloading music that was already free to begin with.

If you read the title clearly, it suggests the 2nd subject you stated

The fact you had to specify a "safe site" implies piracy. The "must have most classic rock" also implies piracy.

You could try grooveshark.

I don't think you -can- download MP3s... not off the site anyway. But, there are ways...

I think grooveshark is illegal (who cares anyways?). But you can always use spotify, or download the entire album using a torrent client.

Is it really? Like I said, you can't download any songs off the site itself, only listen.

And like I also said, there are ways...

Grroveshark is on the borderline, as far as I understand. Both Apple and Google pulled it from their stores, but some of us kept it. I'd more likely use Deezer or Spotify, but damn, they let You skip like 5 songs a day :/

I'm asking about that really, free mp3s, not to download those with copyright for free

"most classic rock songs" doesn't really fall under royalty free music.

Bandcamp is a great way to get some good MP3 files. They are rather limited in the artists that actually give songs away for free though.

not sure about genres (probably mostly electronic), haven't been there for a while.

Just google whatever you want ... Song Name .mp3

Scout the results and soon you'll come to know which sites are trustworthy and which are not. Posting a site here would mean copyright violation and most site forums don't allow for that.

archive.org has tons of free music.

However, I don't think you're going to find classic rock for free. By definition, classic rock was created before people started giving away music for free.

More than often I notice that free music just isn't very good. Groupees has some nice music bundles for very cheap and music in Bandcamp isn't very expensive either, in case you ever decide to buy music. Some bands have free music there also.

Personally I never understood streaming. Anyone can just run a program in the background and record the stream and make an mp3.

If someone really wants to pirate music, there are much easier ways to get much higher quality copies than transcoding from a lossy streamed version to another lossy format.

I use a program called Songr.

Songr is a cloud music player that streams and downloads music from multiple web services, including Grooveshark, Prostopleer, MusicSearch, YouTube and many others (including the music already on your computer) .

https://sites.google.com/site/getsongr/
There is also a portable version.

I found this program by accident one day about a year ago. It looks like it hasn't been updated since 2013 but it still works well. Since it seems to get its sources from valid companies I don't think that it is any more illegal than browser extensions that allow you to do the same or they would have been sued and the software removed by now. If found to be otherwise I apologize in advance.

For streaming, I usually use last.fm or even YouTube with AdBlock active
For free mp3s there are plenty of sites...actually iTunes used to give away a free track every week but they seem to have stopped that...there's also Soulection and a crapload of others...

That fact that I buy my music makes me "old school"?

Lol no. It's called being a law-abiding citizen you dumb adolescent.

That wasn't an option. There was streaming and there was downloading. Downloading was said to be old school. Nowhere was purchasing music mentioned. So no need to sling around baseless insults.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

That's actually worse. I thought I read an arrogance against people that bought music, not an ignorance of buying music.

So my "insults" actually are extra fitting.
