Vuelta a España 2017

I wasn't gonna do a Giro or Vuelta event but since a few people asked me if I was going to make one, I couldn't resist.

How it works

Predict who is going to win each stage of the race. Anyone with at least one correct predicition will be eligible to enter the (50+ games) winners' event that I will organise at the end of the cycling season.

Leave your prediction for each stage on the giveaway for that stage. Below you can see a table with all of them but you can just go the first one and use the next stage link on there to go through all of them.

Preview

This event is a little more limited than the Tour event though; no Tour Touristique and the preview is just a direct copy/paste of Fernando Escartín's comments from the offical site, so no speculations about the individual stage winners (by me, that is, feel free to add your own).

I can't help but do a very quick listing of a few riders for the general qualification victory. :)
Keep in mind only predictions for stage winners qualify for the winners' event but feel free to discuss the possible general qualification winners below.

  • Chris Froome is going to try to become the third man in history to win both the Tour and the Vuelta in one season (and the first to do so since the Vuelta got moved from Spring to its current slot in the calendar). The bookies seem to think he can do it. He'll have Wout Poels there to help him.
  • Many of the contenders you'd expect are there this year; Fabio Aru, Rigoberto Uran, Vincenzo Nibali, Esteban Chaves, Romain Bardet, etc, all have done the Tour as well.
  • Alberto Contador announced he is retiring after the Vuelta so this will be his final farewell.
  • Last year's winner, Nairo Quintana, won't be there, however.
  • Also not starting is Tom Dumoulin, which is a shame. However, he won the BinckBank Tour just last week, which was contended by a whole raft of great riders (Sagan, Van Avermaet, I could name ten more).
  • As I am keeping this short, I am bound to have forgotten someone.

Should be an interesting time trial today. Let's just hope Froome won't decide the Vuelta already.

Froomie wins stage 16, a time trial. :-)

Wilco Kelderman got second place which was very impressive.

Hopefully we'll see some more attacks this last week. Froome is quite a bit ahead but we're getting some real monster climbs this week!

Kelderman did very good indeed and Froomie hasn't got this in the bag yet because there are some tough stages to come especially on Saturday.

Contador really tried today and he got close but it was not to be...

Froome didn't lose that much but maybe the others will now see that attacking can work.

Can't wait for the Angliru on Saturday!

So... Three stages to go. Who's gonna win the whole thing?

Saturday is going to be the deciding day; it all depends on how strong Froome and team Sky will be that day.

Hopefully it'll be really exciting and close.

Looks like Froome has the best cards but nothing is sure until the last stage and finish.

A saw the sprint with half an eye just as I was leaving; he did really well to win from there.

Yet another Belgian victory in a grand tour; they sure are stacking up nice!

Indeed, indeed! ^^

It was a nice power sprint and that made number 3 for Belgium! :3

The contrast with yesterday's stage couldn't have been greater, including the glasses of wine. :D

Indeed.

And another amazing result for Quick Step; Matteo Trentin really had no one to challenge him.

Number 4 for Quick Step and Froome has a nice collection of jerseys including the points jersey that wasn't certain until the last stage was finished.

Yeah, it's been quite impressive!

I'm sure that if people had attacked Froome more in the Tour he wouldn't have won there as he wasn't that strong there.

I regret to say I fucked up with some of the keys; I gave away ten keys from OtakuMaker which I apparently had already used for giveaways a month ago but not noted as such in my Excel file.

I found spare keys for three of the games and replaced those.

I hope the other winners will be ok with me asking Support to delete the giveaways.

I've updated the stages to show all possible winners.

My apologies!

Update: everyone who has agreed to the deletion gets a spot on my 50 game winner's train even which will be held in a few months.
