Why does this game have metacritic rating so high? It's 83!~ And the reviews are overwhelmingly positive.... is it a trap?

It's not that difficult really, but it's a survival game so things ramp up pretty quick. Definitely depends on the kinds of game you're into. I bought it out of curiosity and was pleasantly surprised, though I find dodging the screaming skullwaves to be oddly relaxing and meditative so.... yeah.

for me personally, i really didn't like Darkness II even though it had very good reviews on steam

It has been a while since I tried it but IIRC it felt very very boring. If I didn't have such a damn long backlog maybe I would give it another chance but as it stands.... meh

I had to do a research paper for school a few grades ago (I think it was like, 7th? I don't remember... xD), made my subject about the gaming industry and I can definitely say that indeed, it was the child of a time where companies thought gamers were just purchasing idiots and oppertunity moneybags.

Aliens: Colonial marines. It may or may not be the worst game ever made, but I rate it as at least ONE of thre worst games ever made as it destroyed YEARS of built up hope and excitement for me.

That sounds similar to what No Man's Sky did, or Mighty No. 9 and Duke Nukem Forever.

It's true. Very few games can. But this is a special case. Heck it was released four years ago but was actually first initially developed for the playstation 2 and xbox back in 2001! Gearbox just...my god they butchered the poor game.

Fun fact: you can find plenty of games similar to ET on the Steam store right now.
If you ask me, the worst games fall into 3 categories:
- Unplayable, first-project-like, not-even-pre-alpha-looking games (Why So Evil, those Zatwor games, The Last Hope, The Tower, etc)
- Blatant rip-offs and incomplete games (Voxelized, the other game that the guy who made Voxelized created)
- The Sakura franchise...
JK, the Sakura franchise + other games that use hentai / little girls / little girl hentai to appeal. Those kind of games have no redeeming qualities except maybe the art. The game industry is getting flooded by the same garbage that the anime industry is filled with.
I'm talking about narrative or gameplay quality.
I understand, though, that many people enjoy and have fun playing borderline hentai games, maybe that's why so many are being made. :P
There are more bad games, but I wouldn't really call them the worst...

Yeah, I get it. I was just saying that while ET is bad in many obvious ways, many people seem to do the same mistakes when creating their own games.
I haven't played ET, I've just seen it played a couple of times. :P
What I wanted to say is that games should be made with love for games. Things like ET and the other ones I've mentioned don't seem to be...

the problem with E.T. is that they made more cartridges than there were atari consoles in existence - every console owner would literally need to buy two copies of the game for it to be profitable

I looked it up out of curiosity, it seems that they got back about 3.5 million copies of the game that were unsold at release. I don't know about how many people owned an Atari 2600 at the time, but that's still an insane amount of waste.

there were 19 million consoles sold at that time, and they produced 4 million cartridges.
Approximately 1.5 million copies of the game were sold, which is actually quite decent. The other 2.5 million ended up in a landfill

That Sakura clickety click for some "reading" and cartoon anime/hentai girls with almost no clothes on them. Just don't get it who the hell buys them, and especially who rates them because at some point they all had like 80-90 % positive reviews.

Big Rigs Over the Road Racing.
You'd think it is some game that is constantly at the #1 spot because people never dared to delve into the actually deepest, darkest depths of the shovelware indie rip-off scene. But no. It really is that atrocious when you actually try to play it. Doesn't look like it, but any hands-on experience confirms its aptly deserved status.

It's a shame that such things have become common :(
But yeah, Limbo of the Lost is a terrible game. That movement speed, it's so slow. And the developer was so proud of his game that he created fake accounts on adventure game forums, promoting it, and when people asked for help getting past puzzles, he got really angry would would attack anyone trying to help, saying that that's not how the game was meant to be played.

Cheetahmen from Action 52 has become a bit of a cult classic, there's a whole website dedicated to it. :P
I never played the NES Action 52 but the Sega version wasn't too bad. All of the games were incredibly shallow and "meh" but wasn't too awful, as they were aimed at little kids, and there were 52 games so at least it had variety.
