It sounds like they are saying the screen and hinge are broken, but everything else is working. The motherboard is twisted, but still works. To verify that everything works before spending the money to fix the screen, just plug the laptop into a monitor or TV and see if it works (this is probably what they did). If everything works fine, just have the screen and hinge replaced/repaired.
You probably want to run a game or something else demanding and make sure the CPU and GPU are not overheating before paying to fix the screen. You can use free programs to check the temperature of each. If the motherboard is twisted, the heatsinks may not be making good contact to remove the heat properly. If it is overheating, you can probably get it to work if you don't mind spending the time to open it up and bending it a little to make good contact again. It may take a little trial and error, but there is no real harm by trying unless you are planning to sell it to someone in it's current condition and don't want to damage it more.

do you think that i can still use the warranty in the future if i dont replace motherboard now?

What tigglez said. It doesn't look like they're trying to charge you £920. In fact they sound completely reasonable, and they point out that the only thing you lose from keeping the motherboard is the warranty.
You don't state what you had before (the broken laptop), whether it was good enough for your needs, and what form factor is best for you (feels like you're asking about a small desktop, but you had a laptop, so...). Given this, I find it hard to recommend anything. If the laptop was good enough, I'd definitely suggest having it fixed.

Looks like a pretty good spec. I don't think you can get a better laptop for £920. You may be able to get something a bit better (especially on the GPU front) for a desktop, but I'm not sure it's that worth it. Personally if you can fix it for £120 or under, I'd go for that even if it means no warranty. If you do want a new PC, how much would you spend on it, and would a desktop PC be okay?

If you still want a laptop, this kind of thing kicks ass https://www.mysn.de/xmg-ultimate-gaming-laptops/xmg-u717
If you don't mind desktop or laptop, desktop will be roughly half the price for the same performance, so obviously desktop is the better choice.

It's going to be more expensive to build a good PC because RAM and GPU prices are all inflated atm.
Do you do gaming streaming? If so I'd go with a Ryzen CPU, else an Intel one might be better.
Depending on how your laptop broke you might be able to use the SSD and hard drive from it in your new PC to save some money.

https://www.steamgifts.com/giveaway/hlgWD/
thanks kindly
Edit: here is the message they sent about the repair ( I only sent it in because the screen wouldn't turn on :p)
Hi John
Thanks for your emails and I apologise for the delay.
We are fixing the minimal amount that we need to see where we stand which is LCD cover and LCD cable. According to the technician, the hinge is repairable without replacing.
This would put repair at about £40. If the machine requires a new screen, we would be looking at another £80 but we wouldn't proceed without informing you.
As the Motherboard seems slightly twisted but working, we would not be able to continue to warranty the machine if this isn't replaced, despite working. Because the CPU and GPU are soldered to the board, this would be around £800 to fix.
As soon as we know more we will certainly let you know.
As always, if you have any other questions or queries in the meantime then please do not hesitate to get back in touch.
