Thanks for the train. Sorry but I don't really know a lot about PC's..

£920 for repairs is a bit too much, considering that you can buy a new one for that much.
Since you posted the repair price in £ I'm assuming that you are from the UK, so the laptop should have a 2 years guarantee and sometimes individual things have more than 2 years, but that depends on the brand, for example my GPU (NVidia) had more than 2 years. So check out the guarantees and see if you can get it fixed without spending anything.
If you decide to build a new pc, then I would suggest this site: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/
It allows you to check if all parts are compatible and if you select UK at the top right they suggest some stores where to buy each part that is cheaper, but that means that you would have to build it yourself but from a quick look in this thread I don't think you know how. So pick the parts, see if it's all compatible, find a store where you can buy the parts and that builds the pc, ask them if everything is ok and compatible too, and buy it.
I also suggest checking this out: https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc/
It's a subreddit exactly for questions like yours. You tell them what you need (pc) and what you want it for (gaming/working/???), how much you want to spend (mention that you are from the UK, so that they don't give you prices from US stores) and mention that you don't know how to build, so you will need to do in store. They also have a beginners guide.

https://www.steamgifts.com/giveaway/hlgWD/
thanks kindly
Edit: here is the message they sent about the repair ( I only sent it in because the screen wouldn't turn on :p)
Hi John
Thanks for your emails and I apologise for the delay.
We are fixing the minimal amount that we need to see where we stand which is LCD cover and LCD cable. According to the technician, the hinge is repairable without replacing.
This would put repair at about £40. If the machine requires a new screen, we would be looking at another £80 but we wouldn't proceed without informing you.
As the Motherboard seems slightly twisted but working, we would not be able to continue to warranty the machine if this isn't replaced, despite working. Because the CPU and GPU are soldered to the board, this would be around £800 to fix.
As soon as we know more we will certainly let you know.
As always, if you have any other questions or queries in the meantime then please do not hesitate to get back in touch.
