Hi there , my last gaming laptop is broke and they are trying to charge me £920 to repair it so i may as well get a whole new computer, can anyone please recommend anything for me.

My room is quite small so anything compact would be the best.

Here is a small train for your kind help (all lvl 1)
https://www.steamgifts.com/giveaway/hlgWD/

thanks kindly

Edit: here is the message they sent about the repair ( I only sent it in because the screen wouldn't turn on :p)

Hi John

Thanks for your emails and I apologise for the delay.

We are fixing the minimal amount that we need to see where we stand which is LCD cover and LCD cable. According to the technician, the hinge is repairable without replacing.

This would put repair at about £40. If the machine requires a new screen, we would be looking at another £80 but we wouldn't proceed without informing you.

As the Motherboard seems slightly twisted but working, we would not be able to continue to warranty the machine if this isn't replaced, despite working. Because the CPU and GPU are soldered to the board, this would be around £800 to fix.

As soon as we know more we will certainly let you know.

As always, if you have any other questions or queries in the meantime then please do not hesitate to get back in touch.

Bump. Nice train. Reccomend Orono's tip, cause it is the best one.

I'm really not very good at PC specs, so just have a humble bump so that hopefully someone else can actually help you :)
PS: bump not available in Racoon City ^^

Bump, I'd go with desktop every time. You will always be limited in what you can do in terms of repair or upgrades with laptop. Good luck!

Forget that thing. Build your own.

  1. Figure out max price and size
  2. Check out the Logical Increments, PCMasterrace builds, BuildaPC guides
  3. Play around with putting together your own computer on PC Part Picker - it's like building with Legos
  4. If you need further help, BuildaPC is a great places to ask questions. If you're super lost, just ask the folks at BuildaPCforme and do what they say.

Bump and good luck finding a fix. First get back in touch with them and find out how much it'll cost to keep your machine running though.

Like others said, a mini desktop is better than any laptop

That's and odd behaviour regarding the motherboard. With limited room Mini ITX is surely the best way. However, that timing is bad regarding the current prices.
Thank you for the train!
