Man, I remember thinking " Oh boy, I can't wait for the next bundle to be released!", now its more like "Oh man, another bundle? this is the fourth one this month, and it's even worse than the previous one...".
Dunno, just a random thought.

Edit: This doesn't mean I don't like/buy indie games and/or bundles, I still buy some of them, and I enjoy playing indie games like the best, it's just that, well, it feel's like it's going more like quantity>quality, there are exceptions of course, but, yeah.

I still appreciate all the bundles, but it does bum me out when there's overlap between them and I end up having to toss keys away (to you guys) ;p

I wish I shared your enthusiasm about Humble, but for me it's more like a collective of kind-of or mostly known indies that are acclaimed critically and/or loved by the public. There's nothing wrong with that, and still every Humble is an insta-buy for me (bought the Music bundle too even though I'll never listen to it), but there's something wonderful in getting a pack of games you know next to nothing about, try out, and be amazed. This is why I'm also insta-buying the Royales these days; they're the only ones that bring quality and so much fun games, and I usually only know 1 game from each bundle. It's a blind deal, but it always has been a winning deal for me so far. And there's still a lot that I haven't even tried from them...

In any case, ever since they introduced me to the Blackwell trilogy, they have my unending trust. They have to fuck up really bad to lose it.

me too. I buy roughly 75% of them, I think. I left some Indieroyales and Indiegalas out since I'm infected by the bundle-virus but more or less because I had more than 2 games from the bundle!

Sure, some games might not look the best and maybe they aren't A rated titles or even very popular, but there will always be someone who enjoys that genre of gameplay. You should be more forgiving and try some of them, you might like what you play rather then what you see.

buying indie games and supporting the artists who make them is like one of the most hipster things ever

1 decade ago

Comment has been collapsed.

We're talking at different levels of hipster. OP is rage because everybody knows about the indie bundles now, so they aren't special anymore. This guy's saying to support indie developers. "Support small business and farmer's markets" isn't hipster. "Support the thing that's different and hate the thing that everybody likes" is hipster. OP is hipster. This guy's just a hippy. Damn hippies.

Comment has been collapsed.

I don't think you read OP's post at all. He never says anything about how many people know about them. He's saying that whereas there used to be an indie bundle every once in awhile that would have fantastic games that were well worth the money, which made the bundles something special, there are now one or two new ones a week of declining quality. And I am apt to agree.

"Indie" is pretty much the origin point of "hipster". Disliking something because it's increased in quantity and decreased in quality is not.

The quality of most bundles is getting worse, H|B being the exception, and overlapping of games is also getting worse as more people jump on the bandwagon and bundle releases become more frequent, having said that I still buy a lot of them but that'll be changing if the quality doesn't step up a wee bit.

yeap, Humble Bundle always rocks, indie Royale is amazing to show you some "hidden gems" every now and then, and Be Mine is being quite good. Be Mine 4 was the weakest, but even then it was worth buying.

O:

I can say for sure that plain sight, beat hazard, madballs in baboo & even Killing floor (!) are FAR better then bit.trip runner (wich i have cause i did bought some of HiB) rochard, vessel etc...

But yeah...HiB is not that bad...it has good games and bundles once in a while (like HiB V ! it was awesome !!!)

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

True, Bemine 2 has been one of the best bundles ever. Personally, I only find that one or two games in the Humble Bundles are worth playing. That's just my opinion though. They have bigger fanbases, but I don't like them as much. I have played quite a few of the games from Groupee's bundles. And the Indie Royale's bundles aren't bad either. Indie Gala often goes with quantity over quality, but even then, I find the occasional game that's worth playing.

I've never bought a humble bundle/gala/whatever, actually. Paying that little for so many games, especially when half of them are games I don't like/want, just seems pointless. Why not pirate them if the developer only gets 30 cents (for example) from your purchase anyway? I just buy the individual games when I want then.

1 decade ago
Permalink

30 cents is better than zero when you pirate their games :P

And that's why I said I just buy the individual game that I want instead. Reading comprehension is fun!

1 decade ago
Permalink

Because in many cases the added incentive of a low price, of charity or of giving the money directly to developers is what makes people cross the threshold of buying. The HIB makes tons of money for developers, probably more than they would otherwise get. Other bundles, I'm not so sure, but they still make an effective promotion.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I sure wouldn't have bought most of my games (even the ones I like) if they hadn't been in a bundle. Couldn't afford them, for one. Wouldn't have known about some, for another thing.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I don't really bother thinking about it. The developers have agreed to have them put into the bundles, so they accept that they won't recieve as much money as if people buy their games seperately. I always beat the average anyway, so it's not as if I'm a cheapskate(Well, with Android bundles I often don't bother beating the average, but that's because I don't an Android phone). Buying bundles is legal, unlike piracy which is illegal.
