Hi everyone,

The stats page has been updated with information about active users (you'll need to be logged in to view the page). I started logging the data in August, so it's relatively new, but it does include some graphs that people might find interesting (e.g. how many users are active for any given contributor level).

There have been a few other changes to the site the past couple of days. You can find them in the change log.

Australia doesn't even make the top 25 countries ... we fall behind Argentina, Portugal, Hungary, Romania, Czech, Netherlands, Greece .... even Kazakhstan and Belarus.

We use to be in top 15!

It was very weird to see Hungary... with like 280 people. Expected a better overall reach for the site globally

Makes sense for Argentina at least, our population is considerably larger that Australia's so it shouldn't be that hard to outnumber you.

guess bogans don't play much, same here across the Tasman - kids rather steal cars to create some cloud for the tiktoks

Nice. I will refer to that next time when somebody would use argument "it just bothers vocal minority and there is more than million users on this site who are not complaining".

I am a little curious about the random dip on the 26th Sept at 16:00. That's interesting.

depends on who you ask, I guess.
Jews have their holy day of rest on Saturdays

I was only being sarcastic really but since we're on the topic, the biblical "seventh day" that God supposedly rested after 6 days of creation is Saturday, hence the Shabbat being between Friday and Saturday night and that's what I was joking about with all the confusion between Saturday and Sunday being the day of biblical rest.

I would be happy to compromise and get 7 paid days of vacation per week. For awhile, anyway. I'm working more than ever before of late, and Sunday afternoon naps are a must.

Strike! Strike!
Seriously though I get the Sunday naps. I work 6 days a week, sometimes at night and I need my one day of rest, whichever day I get.
Take care of yourself though, yeah?

I'm shocked there aren't more Turks on SG. I thought everyone on Steam was living in Turkey now... :P

Country is based on IP used to visit Steamgifts or on Steam account data?

Permalink

It's based on the region they selected on SteamGifts.

Thanks! I forgot that was a thing. But that clears up some already made interpretations.

Would someone please tell me where this selection is found? Is it only upon registration?

Same page as the Sync with Steam
https://www.steamgifts.com/account/settings/profile

3 Region
XXXXXXXXXX
The above country should be the region used by your Steam account. It is important you select the correct country, as it will allow you to enter region restricted giveaways available to you. If it needs to be changed, please contact support.

Since we're at around 30k active users, I'd say the new Blacklist limit should be 15k ;)

  1. What the heck is going on at Saturdays :D
  2. what happened on fateful day of 26 September at 16:00 :D (yea, propably maintenence time. But it looks funny)
  3. Oh, hi Poland. Yup, it's almost a meme, how active Poland is on internet. And I'm saying that as a polish person.

Ironically I find a lot of giveaways usually created on Saturdays but then we're not talking about users making GAs in those stats

Historically, I always saw more entries in my giveaways--and more giveaways on the site--Friday night to Sunday morning. I assumed this was all Saturday morning, but I don't know.

so, I'm either blind or stupid or both, but I can't find an explanation. What is counted as "active" users. is it just "online right now"? Why not call it "online users" then?

Good point.

This is a metric name / a term used by Steam and other companies.
For the websites, an "Active User" is a user who has had at least one online session in the specific period of time.

Interesting stuff. Of the level 10 people (you know, the ones who must be terminally bored because they can't level up anymore, which we all know is the point of this site), about 60% is still active if you go by monthly statistics, and 50% is active if you go by daily. So there isn't a large category of "less active" people who do log on every once in a while but not regularly; you're either active or you're not (same for L8-L9).

Now we need more stats with how many GAs accounts enter on average! And a top 10 with users who entered the most GAs every month, so they can win the special prize of being designated bots and getting autobanned... Wait, no, not that.

Hypothetically had that been the case, the user could have avoided the mess by simply syncing Windows with the Microsoft account.

Interesting that people are most active during the work week.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Makes perfect sense to me. I'm most active on sg when I have downtime while I'm working. It's the sort of thing I can easily do for a few minutes when I've got nothing better to do but know it won't last long. On the weekends I barely even touch the internet because I finally have time to do the things I couldn't on my work days (like gaming, cooking, and spending time with family and friends). I'm sure I'm not the only one.

Could also be that the work week is different in various countries. Over here in Bangladesh, typical work week is Sunday to Thursday for most jobs.

I have a feeling 90 percent are botted or automated. The number of bots spamming my giveaways are crazy.

Permalink

The amount are much lower as 90%.
I assume around 40%.

The autojoiners that have on top the, included, thanks script activated are the dumbest ones that are very annoying but they are only a tiny minority of the autojoiners.

Nah you used to say 90%, don't you change your data now. I said it's lower than 30%, don't you dare claim my data is more accurate than yours, then you got nothing left.

Interesting stats, thanks for that!
Is it just me that was thinking that the number of users on SG was way, waay higher? Like, 200K not 20K
Obviously, I'm assuming a lot of bots, but still
