Cyber Chicken was a bonus in Be Mine 6 and steam keys were promised after the game was greenlit/released on steam. It was labeled as "The Stealth Project" back then. If you go to the BM6 page now, you'll see the description has changed, but you can find the original description using the wayback machine. I like how they don't deliver steam keys for BM6 yet create a new bundle for the game lol. Didn't see this mentioned anywhere yet.

Wayback machine link: https://web.archive.org/web/20141027090713/https://groupees.com/bm6

Original description:

"GROUPEES STARTER: A spin on Kickstarter and other group-funding ideas, this project will be funded, managed, resourced and influenced by Groupees and its community of game lovers. The Stealth Project is being developed as a sidescrolling platformer in the Metroidvania sub-genre for PC, MAC and Linux. Purchasers of this bundle will get the following: 1). Exclusive dev-level access to the game as it gets developed; 2). Opportunity to influence all game elements including art, music and game design; 3). Opportunity to contribute to production, including naming game characters, designing weapons and levels and composing music; 4). All versions of the game as it gets developed, from prototype to the final production release, even Steam keys once the project is Greenlighted! :)"

WHOA!
I have Be Mine 6 in my account, and it's now listed as 'Cyber Chicken Episode 1' but there's no Steam Key...

Nice find. Thanks for pointing this out.

Since the last part is in quotes did it seriously say Greenlighted ? I thought Groupees was based in Oregon.
Nevermind, I just checked and it actually said Greenlighted.
For the love of god the past tense of "greenlight" is Greenlit. I'm no native speaker but even I know that.

It's hardly the only time in their history that Groupees has basically lied about what they were selling/delivering after having taken people's money, nor the only time that they have edited the bundle page descriptions after the fact to cover it up.

I don't remember what bundles they were in (pretty old ones) but I seem to recall controversies surrounding the following:

  • The Body Changer (Steam key promised and only delivered year(s) later)
  • Leisure Suit Larry Reloaded (Steam key promised but never delivered)
  • Fester Mudd (Desura key promised but never delivered)
  • SanctuaryRPG: Black Edition (Steam key promised but never delivered).

In the case of Leisure Suit Larry Reloaded and SanctuaryRPG Black they promised those exact editions of the games to buyers and then weaseled out of it with a bait & switch by giving free and/or deprecated versions instead.... then went back and edited the descriptions after the fact. Most people don't remember this or haven't been following the bundles long enough to have a sense of the history.

I couldn't put my finger on it why I dislike the inclusion of Greenlight games in their "normal" Bundles. This is the reason.
Unless they deliver what you bought instantly they are not to be trusted to deliver at all.

What's worse is this game is published by Groupees, so there's really no excuse for keys to not be added to accounts.

Indeed.

Well since I spent quite a bit of time replying to one of the Groupees curators whose feelings I apparently hurt I will give him time to respond to my comment and then ask him to please adress this issue with Groupees and give us an explanation.

I'm not sure these examples were actually Greenlight games in said bundles though. One would have to actually research further to verify. The Body Changer and Fester Mudd probably were. Not sure about the other two.

I should have clarified that better. I ment all games where they promise a Steam key but don't instantly deliver.

Indeed. If you think about it buying any Greenlight games with the promise of a key later is inherently a gamble, especially with the smaller bundle sites imo. You are betting that:

  • The Bundle organizer will actually deliver on their pledge
  • The Bundle organizer will still be around and in business when the games finally make their way onto Steam

Remember thegreenlightbundle.com? I got their first 2 bundles and fortunately I received most of the keys for the games before they went under.

Remember thegreenlightbundle.com?

I have to admit I don't. I've only been actively buying Bundles since IndieGalas Darksiders Bunde ( / Humble Star Wars Bundle 1) and only been around the Bundle scene a few months before that.

But your point still stands. I've bought a few Greenlight Bundles from Groupees in a time when (for like 6 month - 1 year) I was buying Bundles obsessively and hardly skipped one but other then that I've been mostly avoiding Greenlights.

Honestly, beside that 2D Pixel Art platformer Greenlight concept that's currently often on top of the Community page (Dead Cells)
I can't remember a single game that went through Greenlight that peaked my interest. Granted a few did but those always were already greenlit and published on Steam when I discovered them.

the bundle sites are at the mercy of the publisher/developer, if they back out on on providing the keys, the bundle site can't really do anything about it.. Which has been seen numerous times in the past years...

Groupees never promised steam keys for The Body Changer, Leisure Suit Larry Reloaded and SanctuaryRPG: Black Edition. Check here , here and here . About the desura key of Fester Mudd i have no idea. Pls edit or update your post because it's 100% innacurate and misleading.

And pls don't tell me they edited the bundle description. i bought these bundles and i remember. The Body Changer didn't even have greenlight page if i remember correctly. The developer spammed desura owners to vote for his game on greenlight and that's why it became controversial. Leisure Suit Larry Reloaded was never in groupees bundle. it was Larry 1 vga with just a promotion greenlight icon for their new game. And about SanctuaryRPG: Black Edition check here where the developer explains the situation.

As I stated above, those pages were edited by Groupees and the content altered afterwards, so if what I have said is true then you can't make such a conclusion based on pages that they have content control over. Believe whatever you want, I don't really care, but those are the facts and the events as I experienced them as I was around and following bundles since before Groupees even got started. If you want to drink the kool-aid then that is your business.

edit: edited to make you feel better. now if you will excuse me I have wasted far too much time and haven't gotten the things done that I should have.

As i told you I bought these bundles and i remember what happened. you call your accusations fact? Are you trolling me? I don't have the mood. I don't care what you believe or remember it happened. I explained in my post what actually happened.

edit: funny thing that you edit your "facts" with "events as I experienced them". did you even bought these bundles?

you can't really blame Groupees, if the developer goes back on providing the keys after the fact, as was the case with The Body Changer and SanctuaryRPG..

The Body Changer were pimping for greenlight votes on Desura by almost promising people would get keys, then once the game released they used some loop hole about the game being part of the bonus section and them not feeling they should have to provide keys..

Sanctuary was part of the Free bundle groupees had over Christmas, the developer decided to change the game from F2P to a purchased game, so they used the reasoning that they didn't have to give keys because you could already get the F2P version of the game..

Another one was Hippocampal, which didn't provide keys after the game was greenlit..

Now that's interesting, just checked and it seems I bought that bundle also. Maybe after four years they forgot about it? I know I did... :)

I wouldn't mind getting a Steam key from them, but since I already bought that other bundle it's a moot point for me... :(

I think most people are buying this bundle with coins, not real money.. or at least I'd hope so. I haven't paid much attention to Groupees in the last few months aside from the Jast VN bundle. The bundle quality has gone to shit and anything remotely good they bundle usually gets rebundled by Bundlestars or IG cheaper anyway.
