If I'm being honest, I was expecting angels coming down from the heavens with trumpets and sht, the sea boiling, the day turning into night, mothers' wailing, y'know the biblical end of days kind of stuff. Instead I have to settle with a developer reneging on a promise. It could have been more anti-climactic I guess.
.
Comment has been collapsed.
*Reneged. I know. It was a joke. It wasn't meant as recounting of what actually transpired. I thought that was obvious enough.

This is screwed up. I only decided to purchase Agony because it came with the full unrated version of the game. I would not play the censored version even if it was free. I only agreed to pay money knowing I would get the full uncensored version and now they just decide to take back part of what I paid for? The devs need to make this right, otherwise this is a case where I fully support getting the game from another source where I do not have to pay again for something I already purchased.
Edit: I'm glad to hear that the dev responded saying that this was not intentional and they are contacting Steam to try and fix it.
Comment has been collapsed.
Standalone unrated version is still selling. they had a promo - buy an censored one and get an unrated one as a gift, and now this gift has disappeared from everyone who bought an censored one. So as i understand all who bought unrated from the beginning, still had it? a strange situation, I also thinked of buying it, now I'm waiting for the reaction of the developers, that they will answer their customers.
Comment has been collapsed.
Incorrect. I pre-ordered Agony (the unrated version). At that time we did not know it would be censored that much. I no longer have the Unrated version either. It seems everyone who did not buy the Unrated as a separate game has lost it.
Comment has been collapsed.
Can confirm, I bought the Unrated version when it launched on Steam and I got the original version later on in a Humble Bundle, and I still have them both in my library.
Comment has been collapsed.
Not entirely accurate. Some of us (about 3800 people) 'bought' the game by backing on Kickstarter, on the promise of the unrated game. When they first launched, only the censored version was available, and so the keys that were sent out were for the censored version, with the unrated version being added later. Then, they gave the unrated version to everyone.
We have also lost access to the unrated version, despite that being what (most of us) originally backed. The developer has not even bothered to inform kickstarter backers that the issue exists, or answer requests for a solution.
They chose to handle the roll-out and keys this way, and now they are choosing to blame Steam and offer no sensible solution, while also choosing to ignore the people who gave them the chance to make the game in the first place. Now they are claiming that it is impossible to do anything other than offer a discount, because big bad steam says so - despite many other developers being able to offer free titles to the owners of other games without having to have them bundled.
Their "it wasn't us, honest, and we can't fix it, honest, it's all Steam's fault, honest" doesn't hold up.
Comment has been collapsed.
Dev explicitly removed the Agony Unrated from the Agony package, as stated on SteamDB by the OP.
Given this, I'm not particularly interested about what or why it happened.
Even if there are reasons behind this, some kind of communication should have been released swiftly to avoid this kind of (deserved) backlash.
Comment has been collapsed.
Well a mistake? That's highly unlikely. Takes a bit of effort, along with the noted changes, that it was intentional.
Comment has been collapsed.
One dev and he was already dead after removing the app from the package
Comment has been collapsed.
Lets say they were dead, how did they remove the game from everyone??? xD
Comment has been collapsed.
So, I guess the guilt of them removing the game killed them.
Odds of them dropping dead after they removed the game must be enormous and highly unlikely. You'd have been better off saying that they might have got arrested or had broke their pinky toe and in hospital. At least that's a more likely situation than they dropped dead.
Comment has been collapsed.
How can we get evidence if the developers do not comment on the situation?
They have been silent for more than 2 days, which is not normal (they have already been told about the problem so many times that they cannot ignore it).
There would be no questions to us if they came out and said - this is a mistake, we will fix it as soon as possible. But they just ignore the problem.
Comment has been collapsed.
y e, but they are so active on their social media. Really dead

NOBODY cares.. I PAY for X thing I EXPECT X thing to STAY in my library as a whole!
I don't care to go chasing ghosts.. It's that simple. I don't care why, how, when as when I pay for something it's in theory MINE. Physical or license.
You go running to the store because on a dvd collection 1 disk magically vanished into thin air and the store took it back like the goblin? No. So don't expect anyone to do the same for steam.
The ONLY platform that checks uploads and file alterations AFTER they happen!
Comment has been collapsed.
Good way to get fired/go out of business.. The problems arise when the costumer is indeed right..
But it's ok.. Next time you have a problem with a company wait until you are 100 for an update and the company to care on her own for no reason whatsoever.
Comment has been collapsed.
No one is saying you don't deserve whatever you lost. You deserve it like everyone that lost the game. What Vial is saying is that being all "Karen" about it, and jumping to conclusions will get you nowhere. If you relax more, try to understand that people are humans and make mistakes, think that the dev has nothing to gain with this, using your smart brain to think, before acting all angry would help you lot..
anger will get you nowhere! you will see this problem will get fixed in no time.
Why is it that in your brain the dev has to be online without a life of his own, and it's perfectly possible that he is the EVILNESS in person and made this on purpose... but the dev can't be dead of a heart attack after revoking the keys by mistake? both are valid reasons (in fact the heart attack is more plausible )... You just prefer to anger yourself with the bad side of the 1000 plausible explanations.
Comment has been collapsed.
Oh yes.. Because how I reply in a forum is indicative of how I contact support or how I make my practices.. Marble brain..
Because a writing is intense doesn't mean a person is angry at the time :)
As for the dev and the online part. What makes you think I care? It hadn't been 5 minutes. It had been 2 days. And also, where exactly I'm blaming the dev?.. My problem is why Steam not the dev. But yeah, keep reading whatever you want and assume and random stuff that I never said. Works with marble brain..
This will probably get fixed. But we gotta keep chasing after every idiocy steam does. This is because of steam practices and has nothing to do with any dev. You seem to keep missing the point and focusing in your "I'm angry and illogical" thoughts (which aren't even accurate btw)
But I'm not expecting much from marbles..
Comment has been collapsed.
Oh no, that wasn't my argument.. But of course you get stuck at every off topic detail instead of what is in front of you :)
Btw.. Care to tell me where I blamed the dev which was your main point in your essay above? Me being a "Karen" and all and you being marble brains isn't helping the conversation :)))

TIL you can actually "blacklist" a dev/publisher in the Steam store via their curator/publisher page: https://steamcommunity.com/discussions/forum/0/1642039363008346470/#c1642039363008415114

This "freedom" steam gives to developers is -yet again- a huge pain only for the customers..
Congratulations for not checking changes prior to uploads!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The devs that do this are to blame.. But steam that allows this to happen while it's taking money is even more to blame!
I wanna see them do this in a physical disc.. Hello "licensing"!
Comment has been collapsed.
True... but that freedom also makes everything run very smoothly in normal circumstances. As long as Steam steps up when stuff like this happens, I think it's a net positive regardless. Better than how most stores do it anyway, with everything locked down so tight that it takes forever to get stuff changed when they need to be.
Comment has been collapsed.
As long as Steam steps up when stuff like this happens, I think it's a net positive regardless.
Except that's not what happens at all and Valve have a proven track record of not getting involved with removals like this. The only time cases like this are "resolved" is when bad press pressures the developer/publisher into a reversal.

Because nobody insists....... Steam is bound by laws and their terms of service.......
They can say "talk to the devs" all day long but legally THEY (steam) are bound..

I don't have the game, so I'm a little less salty about the situation. I've seen similar situations before with other games, where the dev either wanted to turn it into a DLC instead of a completely separate game, or they wanted to separate the two games (sort of a "It used to be you would get two for the price of one, but now I want to start selling it separately"). In the process, they pushed the wrong button (delete instead of rename, or whatever). Usually these things get fixed after a few days. Steam still has a record of everybody who "owns" the Unrated version, so when it gets returned to the store you'll get your game back.
Of course, there's no way of knowing right now that this dev actually intends to put the game back since there has been zero communication from them that I can find. Another possibility is they were threatened with legal action for "allowing" somebody who shouldn't to have access to the unrated version and knee-jerk reaction yanked it from the store while they figure things out.
By all means, message the dev and let them know you're upset. You can try messaging Steam but they'll just say the dev has to fix it. I'm just saying there's a decent chance it's a temporary situation.
Comment has been collapsed.
but they'll just say the dev has to fix it.
Re-open the ticket and remind them of THEIR terms and consumer laws.. This has NOTHING to do with the devs for the consumer. Steam is liable
Comment has been collapsed.
I'm not a lawyer, but I have spoken to some in the past about similar situations. A middle-man (which is what Steam is considered for any non-Valve products) cannot be FORCED to sell or make available an item (IP, etc) that the owner of said item (devs) has said "I do not want this item to be available anymore." Only the owner of the item can make that decision (according to actual lawyers). Remember, games-as-a-service means you do not OWN the game you purchase, you are only being allowed to access it.
Comment has been collapsed.
they are seller of games. They taking money for it. They ARE responsible.
Steam is not market for devs, its a money-making platform.
Yes, Steam cant say what is available and what not, but its Steam role to conversate with dev and if the dev scam-its Steam who need to punish them or force to deliver what they promise
Comment has been collapsed.
The problem is Steam in this case is somewhat like an actual store. You return a faulty item to the store. NOT where the store got it from.......
A tiny tiny tiiiiiny detail but veeeery important one is that you don't buy a license to access A product.. You are not buying a subscription. You rent a lifetime license to access EVERY single individual product you paid for in its entirety (at the time of purchase).
See this golden tiny detail makes a wooorld of legal difference.
So no.. We (consumers) aren't to chase the devs but STEAM for those mistakes regardless of what steam says.
International laws, national laws and above all steam's own terms and the contract you have with them says this beyond clearly.

+1.
Errors with package changes happen. Nobody is perfect. Sure, good, that it's been reported to Steam and Humble, but I'm not into making a big deal about this nor into making negative reviews at least for now, expecting this to be simply fixed in a few days.

We getting notification when package is removed from account. In this case - package wasn't removed, just modified - before it had two games (appIds), and now only have one.

Hello,
After looking into the issue, it seems that this is a known issue and the games developers are looking into the cases individually and request that each player who experienced this issue to send them an e-mail in this matter.
Please email: backers@madmind-studio.com and title it "Agony UNRATED access code".

Hello Martyrs!
A lot of you have been contacting us to report that Agony UNRATED has been removed from your libraries. We looked into it and found out that this is indeed the case and the two versions of the game (Agony and Agony: Unrated) were delinked by Steam.
As most of you know, until now, if you bought Agony you also received a copy of Agony UNRATED in your library. This was always our intended way to do this and that didn’t change. As some of you are also aware, games with themes similar to ours can often face some difficulties on this platform.
Unfortunately, we still don’t have full knowledge on why they were delinked and we’re unable to link the games again using our own tools, so we’re now in contact with Steam support to work out the solution that’ll satisfy everyone.
Stay tuned, as we’ll definitely announce any changes here and on our Discord.

There's one interesting theory in that thread, that the UNRATED version might have been removed from the package because it's an adult-only game, while the original is not. (Effectively adding an adult-only game to users' libraries when they buy a regular game.) This would also explain why the devs can't add it back.

When you actually stop and think about it, this makes sense, much more sense that "rabble rabble bad devs took away my game to get more money" logic that prevalent in the discussion.

Odd thing I noticed. My review for the unrated version shows as a key activation on the review even though I purchased Agony directly on Steam back in 2018 and received the unrated version directly through Steam as a result.

As some of you probably remember, Agony Unrated was given away for free for all Agony owners
https://steamcommunity.com/games/487720/announcements/detail/1688180897603879445
Now the dev changed their mind and decided to revoke Unrated game from all Agony owners who got it for free
Update 1 The dev reacted:
https://steamcommunity.com/app/879420/discussions/0/3182359786945044798/
Update 2
https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/487720/view/3094539594215952980
Let's have some fun with math:
We're looking at a max theoretical value of 124000€ in additional income for Madmind Studio out of this "solution". Clearly, not everyone bought it from Europe and not everyone will rebuy the UNRATED version so it's safe to assume we're actually looking at a lower value but still enough to matter.
Even at 99% discount, we're looking at a max theoretical value of 24980€ in additional income.
