Doom 3 is pretty good. But it's nothing like Doom 1 or 2 (aside from some basic enemy designs), which was a bit disappointing. I wish they had continued the storyline of Doom 1 & 2 instead of doing a reboot, too.
/owns the 4 old Doom books explaining the storyline of Doom 1, 2, and continuing it.
//surprisingly, they're pretty damn good

I got 2 of the books at a garage sale a couple years ago, started reading one but got sidetracked by other things and haven't picked it up since. I believe I have the 1st and 3rd books. Maybe I'll go look for ebook versions of them.
I agree that the storyline for Doom 1 and 2 is rather magnificent, especially when you consider when the game was made and what genre it belongs to(FPS weren't known for their story back then).

Doom 3 is acceptable, really. Had tons of fun back when it was released.

Thanks, glad to see it's out there. I happened to come across some sensitive documents that detail the fact that it's a new Doom game on idTech5, wanted to know if it was out there before I mentioned anything about it to anyone :P

Not really, just mention of "DOOM MP" and RAGE programming work and idTech5, which we already know all about since RAGE is out now.

Says the guy who clocked 40 hours on Half-Life 2 and it's episodes.

The episodes did not. And so what if they're old? You don't enjoy them anymore? What I meant to say was, linear FPSs are not intrinsically bad.

First, what I'm saying is that the newest HL game is 4 years old. Mind you that is the release and not the development. Since then, the industry has changed immensely. Consoles have taken over and the "bro" shooter has flourished. I'm not saying that all linear FPSs are bad. What I'm saying is that there's been so much overflow in the gaming market of uninspired shooters with just a gimmick or two (remember Bodycount?). I'm sure Doom 4 will be a good game, maybe even great, but it'll still fall prey to other FPS cliches done so many other times in the past few years.

There's things out there called internet search engines. They're pretty versatile and can show you a wealth of of information. For example, a search for "Doom 4" gave me this Wikipedia article. Cool, huh?

I can't seem to find info about a new Doom game anywhere, is there public documentation/knowledge they've got something in the works, running on idTech5?
