In some countries people celebrates it tomorrow (21st of March). So...
Happy Nowruz today and another one happy Nowruz day tomorrow!

So in these countries, today would be not-quite-Nowruz?

1 decade ago
Permalink

In these countries today is entirely-not-Nowruz. It's just pre-Nowruz-day.
But you should know that preparations for celebrating begins in deep night - people cooking special food during night, so in early morning tomorrow it should be ready.

It's not only Iranian. Persian (pre-Iranian) empire was really big in the middle ages. In most of ex-Persian provinces Nowruz is great holiday. It's Iran, Afganistan, Albania, Turkey some ex-USSR countries (Tajikistan, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan), Pakistan, India, some states of Russia, part of China and some other countries. Also a lot of emigrants around the world also celebrate this holiday. It's not Iranian.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

It's not alternative year count. It's just traditional holiday.

There is Two Persian Calendars,

  1. Greater Iran, It's Year 2571 ( since Coronation (Or Birth) of Cyrus the great )

  2. Modern Iran, It's Year 1391 ( Solar Hejri )

Sorry for the rude people in this thread. I've removed a couple of comments so far and suspended their accounts. Intolerance will not be allowed. If the only words you can give in a thread expressing joy are incredibly negative or hateful, then you are not welcome in this community.

Best wishes.
