As I'm reminiscing about my poor 400KB/s max internet, I was curious what other's have.

I'm also writing this as I wait for FFXIII to finish it's 3-4 day download straight lol.

55$ a Month for 2-3 Mbps RIP

I am not part of this speed obsession cult. My DL has 500 kB/s top. I am actually paying for 1 MB/s but got the speed crippled due to wrong setting on provider side... never bothered me enough to report for 3 years now.

It has it advantages aswell. My HDDs don't fill up too fast. With higher speed I would have to buy new one every few months (I am kinda hoarder).

Wrong setting as in, you have paid for 3 years for a higher package and never had them fix it?

Exactly. It's not like I could get any cheaper (around 8 $/month) connection here and I see no point in downloading movie/game in 10 minutes instead of 20 minutes.

Am I too weird not caring about connection speed? I know, pointless question on this site :)

True, but I'd still rather get what I am paying for.

As for connection speeds, I don't honestly care how long it takes to DL something, with my limited data cap, I can only DL so much a month anyway. I can't really play competitive online games with my connection speed the way it is though. I lag like mad in games like Rocket League.

I feel your pain. Up until last year, my max was 360 kb/s. (...and I downloaded GTA V with that connection, lol)
Now I feel like I'm living the dream with 5 mb/s.

I download to 25mb/s to 35MB/s but sometimes steam servers fail and the downloads are 10mb/s or 18mb/s

$85 a month with a 150GB cap, 15mbps which equates to me getting a serge when the DL starts of 1.7 MB/s, then drops to 1.3MB/s then drops again to around 600-800kb/s for the remainder

Thanks, the SS Cake Factory is visiting my port.

Yeah, I really need to get a new ISP, but where I live there are only 2 in the area. One only offers basic 10mbps service in my area, the other (the one I have) offers up to 30mbps, but that's about $105 a month

About 6 MB/s - my provider is desperate for me to pay extra for fibre and get about 17 MB/s although I don't really feel the need...

Since I live in a dorm right now it's between 100kB/s on bad days to ~25 Megabyte/s on weekends and pretty much 25MB/s up all the time.

My internet speed and every other platform in existence/launcher/download program gives me usually 14-18 MB/s but steam is a little retarded it seems and gives me 6-10 MB/s instead with zero caps or limitations enabled in my settings.

Steam download consistently maxes out my wifi connection on my laptop... 10MB/sec... if I were wired I could go about 50% faster than that.

Oh, no, not this again... right now, thanks to a free ISP upgrade, it's around 1.7-1.8 MB/s (14-14.5 Mbps), it will last until the end of June.
Afterwards, it will revert to the base plan, around 850-900 kb/s (7 Mbps). Ping usually around 25-30 ms, 45-50 ms during high-traffic days.
Price: €45/month for the base plan (including the phone line, which is mandatory with ADSL), €5/month for the (currently free) upgrade.

We're currently looking to switch to a provider with a 4G-based solution, that would cost half since it doesn't include the phone (which we don't need anyway), and should have better speeds since it's not based on decades old copper - no fiber (or whatever you call it) option here.

12.7MB/s is my peak according to Steam, but I know I've seen it go higher. Highest Speed Test I've done was like 160 Mbps if I recall right. Currently connected wireless though, so doesn't go over 20 Mbps (Typically 1-2MB/s Steam Download Speed). Insane how much speed is lost doing wireless, even with a good Cisco Adapter. Costs me like $75 a month for net, and price will jump in a few months to like $95. Canadian ISP's are gold diggers.

It's definitely possible, but I don't think the service itself can be blamed for that. I have that issue with one of my NICs.

Ah, okay. It sounded as if you had a maximum of 1kbs. :P
Your current speed is faster than anything I ever had, but at least my connection is extremely stable.

$139.99USD per month. Also cost a $250 setup fee. Actual ping is probably better, but this is the nearest server I can speed test to and get a better score than 40mbps.

Mine is similar and I am on satellite living in Canada. Only option for us lumberjacks living in the bush lol. Any large video games I want to install or update need to wait until I visit family 6 hours away. Its a pain.

Yep, pretty much. Unless you live in high population areas such as the middle of the city, then you get shit internet.

Here's a funny Canadian stereotypical article.
(Fun fact, that guy still gets better speeds than I do.)

Kevin LeGris has spent 10 years trying to get a reliable high-speed internet connection at his Ottawa Valley home. He tried to fix the problem by building his own antenna with a hockey stick. (Joe Fiorino/CBC)
