prevents kids that uses public cheats but doesn't really prevent hackers who uses private paid ones since sim cards are what, $3 in RU/SEA.

2$ here. I have 3 personal numbers so ... This is basically useless.

Sim cards cost a bit more in Greece, but nobody actually buys them, because they usually are being given away massively for free. :P

In the Philippines, you can get a sim for about 20-30 Philippine pesos. That is only 0.75 US Dollars converted.

I mean, it's easy to get a new prepaid phone number, but that'll still cut the amount of cheaters in half probably, since most cheaters are children. Adults usually are more mature and not as pathetic.

I think steam should have an age verification as cs:go is for 16+ maybe it will cut it even more

But how would you verify it? Doubt that anyone would be crazy enough to provide them with a copy of their ID

All i want from valve is a different matchmaking for smurfs, so MM won't make legit players play against faggots who are too noob for their own rank and came to fap to killing lower rank players.

I rekon valve should link account that way it will reduce smurfs

add ingame report for smurfing -> after overwatch review it gets flagged as smurf -> MM will only place it with other smurfs

or

MM should check gametime and games on account, if only CSGO is on the account with less than 100 hours -> MM should only group up people from the same skillgroup with only CSGO and barely any gametime -> 90% normal people (with more than CSGO on their acc and more than 100 hours) won't get smurfs.

there are a lot of options but sadly valve is lazy as hell + smurffags gets them more money since they rebuy the game over and over and over again. (and now valve works like this: profit > player's opinion)

PS.: it's the big multiplayer trio's (CSGO, DOTA2, TF2) fault that we still didn't got HL3, since why would they make a singleplayer game, when they get lots of $$$$$$$$$ from these 3 games?

+1 for overwatch option "smurf beyond resonable doubt" :)

What's a smurf in non cs-go speak?

Permalink

High skilled player, who plays on low ranked account, which allow him to have matches with players much less skilled than him. IE. player is global elite, but plays on silver ranked account.

Ah, like a unicum in WoT using a different account. thx for the explanation. Last time I really played CS was when it was still beta 4 & 5 xD

Don't care for CSGO, but them Volv wanting all them phone numbers is starting to get a real ball buster.

CS:GO has a huge problem with smurfs, cheaters, trolls, etc., so should legit people use this thing or not? I really hate it that I have to give my phone everywhere. -_-

cs go is the one big problem
i was starting to play cs go in early 2013 and now it became a total piece of s

It's mostly because of the toxic community. Other than that, some weapons and their nerfing is also a problem.

I can't wait, smurfs are such a massive problem for mediocre players like myself that I gave up on matchmaking. Even if this helps just a little bit I'll consider it a win for most players.

pretty much this, i barely play csgo because of this, and now a soon to be F2P FPS game is much better than csgo with the derankers\smurfs\hackers.... (hint: check out Ghost in the Shell First Assault, its quite a nice game)

I put it on my wishlist, I'll probably pick it up the next time there's a sale if there is one before it goes open beta. Thanks for the recommendation :)

Even if prepaid sims werent as cheap as they are, you think the csgo smurfs / hackers will have a problem getting dad's, mum's, brother's and even grandma's phone for their 15 accounts?

1+1 = 3 ? yes (valve logic )

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

It's basically a "freebie" for Vavle to do though. They already have most legit account's phone numbers for security purposes. That means the barrier to entry for a legit player is basically zero.

The only people this will hassle is those who smurf etc.

And sure, they can bypass if it they really want to... but any obstacle to do so is better than none. Especially if it doesn't affect legit players more than having to click one button, once.

I actualy think this might be a good idea , hopefully this might reduce number of hackers and smurfs I am playing against.

May actually be better for less cheaters in-game.

Upgraded my CS:GO game to prime beta but i still don't know what valve wants to achieve by asking a phone number !

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Some kind of confirmation to cut down smurfs/hackers. They will still be able to play MM, but without PRIME they won't be able to disrupt normal people's games.
