So I just bought new headphones after having my old, relatively cheap Philips headset for over half a decade. It isn't dead really, but the left side needs to be fidgeted around a fair bit every time I move because it loses connection.
So the new ones I got are Sony headphones. First time I've had wireless headphones as well, so I'm pretty excited. Currently it's charging in the charging dock that I've placed on my computer case.

I'm a dummy, so I didn't really ask people for any advice on my purchase (I still have 14 days to return it, no questions asked). I guess now's as good a time as any to ask you all what brand of headphones do you use? Also, if the answer's different for it, then what brand do you recommend the most? How much did you pay for your headphones approximately?

EDIT: Through some Googling, I found out what headset I've been using so far: Philips SHG8000

Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro. A little bit expensive, but they're absolutely worth every penny if you can afford them!

I got the Sennheiser HD 598 four years ago and they're easily the most comfortable headphones I've ever used. I get headaches so can be fussy, but these are perfect and the sound is great for what I use 'em for. They're waaay more expensive now tho, not sure if there's an exact newer copy. Fingers crossed mine last forever. :D

That said, I'd tried Sennheiser Momentum at the time and hated them/returned, so uncomfortable and had a tinny background noise. I had an Audio-Technica ATH-M30 before that which treated me well for years but was painful after 30+ min sessions. All of the ones I bought were in the $75-90 range on sale. Hope you end up liking your new beats by Dre :P! Not having cables can definitely be convenient.

I concur, HD 598 are perfect for all of my home audio needs. Still, weirdly enough, I think HD 558 are even more comfortable (gifted them to my mom several years ago, she's still happy with them).

I have a pair of DT 770s but I mostly just use my cheap $10 earbuds. Literally no difference other than comfort.

Sennheiser Momentum OE - using for gaming mostly.
Sennheiser M2 OEBT - using them on street with phone, sometimes for gaming (when need better quality of sound than in OE).
Sennheiser Urbanite XL - using in office - they are big (relatively) and have microphone.

Actually I've got all these headphones because they all made from steel and allow me to change wire. The only problem with all of them them is price. =)

Also I've had Bluedio T2 - relatively cheap, wireless, with normal sound. Main problem here (for me) - weak headband. My friend broke it when taking off from head.

For PC and Xbox gaming i use Sharkoon Skiller SGH1
For music and movies it was ten-years-old Philips SHP8500, but these headphones have a cable burst due to age, so i tired to use tape to fix it and now use Sharkoon for everything.

Philips is God. There is not even the slightest possibility of buying Philips headphones and being disappointed. SHP6000 is actually the best thing humanity ever created at it's price, if I only knew they stop making them so fast I'd buy 5.

  • HyperX Cloud (first gen) closed back headphones with great audio and good mic. sound stage not so good as HD668B but generaly better sound quality. also nice isolation of outdoor sounds!

i got a gifted 'cheapo' sennheiser (still 60 bucks!) but the mic is really not that great.
also i just wear the thing around the neck to have the mic. there is no reason to go with sweaty ears when you have a 5.1 system around. meh!

edit: my sister has a sennheiser game one headset. that is really nice but it better fucking be nice for 150€.

Generic wired headphones, the type you get at Walmart. I don't even see a brand name printed on it anywhere. They work well. I'd never pay much for headphones since I occasionally drop them by accident and that sort of thing. A more expensive type might have better audio quality but I'm satisfied with good enough. No mic attachment.

Currently using two pairs of HyperX Cloud (first gen), one for my desktop PC and the other for my PS4.
No speakers here except when using the PS4 for Netflix or YouTube.

It depends on if you're looking for closed headphones to block out sound and not be able to hear anyone around you, or open headphones to have a wider sound stage and be able to hear if the phone rings or someone is calling for you. It also depends on if you're after entertainment or competition, and what your budget is. Here are some of the best options:

For open headphones, the Philips Fidelio X2 are some of the best you can get, with good bass and a great soundstage. Great for gaming, music, movies, etc.
For closed headphones, Audio-Technica ATH-M40x / M50x are both great.
For open competition, Audio-Technica AD Series - very bass light, so you'll be able to hear your opponents over explosions.
For open budget, Philips SHP9500 - good all around sound and comfort.

All of the above can be converted into a headset with a V-moda BoomPro or a Massdrop Minimic. But if you absolutely need a headset, I think the Sennheiser Massdrop PC37x is a great option.

i have a corsair headset plugged into my front jacks, but usually i just run through the bookshelf sound system i have sitting on my desk. not sure what model the headset is but i was just looking for something basic but reliable so it's stereo, wired, and plugs into the speaker and mic jacks.

I used to have a pair of Behringer HPX2000 that I loved (so comfy) but one of the plastic pieces that holds the thing together broke and I haven't figured out how to fix it yet, right now I'm using some cheap Philips ones that I had laying around (the sound is meh at best).

I use cheapies, as I need to be able to easily have one earphone off to hear my surroundings, and I hate heavy or bulky headsets. The sound is very good (I think) from them. They used to sell them in a six-pack for $10, or 1 for $2.

I also like Roland RH-5 headphones.
