Back in 2001 I attended a vocational school for electronics. One of the courses was to teach you how to build a computer (not that I needed it). Part of the tuition went toward the parts to build it They gave us a 866MHz Pentium III and some basic equipment. Over time, I upgraded that PC so many times, even after it wasn't worth using anymore. Last year the motherboard finally died.

My first graphics card was a Diamond Viper V330 I bought from Computer City in the 90's. I had to call HP tech support to get a BIOS upgrade in order for the family computer to utilize it. God bless that tech support guy--I can only imagine what it's like guiding some kid through a friggin BIOS update in the era of 56K modems.
