I found myself with a second copy of Papers, Please. (Bought first copy for $5 long time ago, second copy thanks to Humblebundle) So I decided to commence my journey on steamtrades, as a bright-eyed and bushy-tailed first timer. After receiving a number of offers, I took up the offer from someone who had a fair amount of rep, 500+ games in Steam account, and was over level 20. We talked for over two hours, before finally trading. I am very cautious, but dang gurl, dem scammers be tricky tho. He took my key, we were to trade a key at a time taking turns, but once he began counting down "3-2-1" and then went offline, I knew I was done for. Thanks for a great first time Steamtrades!
So I guess I now know two things: I'm hella cautious, yet suck at trading and... uh... there has to be something good that comes out of this, right?

TL'DR: Thanks mane fer takin ma gaem u cool now

Thanks for reading. At least I have you.

I'd do a giveaway for Papers, Please but...

Dang that sucks. Rule should be you go first unless they have lots of +rep and it's a gift imo how much rep did they have?

Sorry to hear that. Just report the asshole and move on.

Thanks. Yeah, reported him. Can only hope he enjoys such a great indie game, while being killed by guilt.

1st rule: Never go first unless the other guy has more rep than you.
2nd rule: Always make sure you are talking with a real guy instead of some impersonator.
3rd rule: Make sure those +rep are actually real and a bit old. If not they may be fake or people were scammed and will only find out hours later.
4th rule: If something is too good to be true, it may be not true.
5th rule: Don't be a dumb guy.

Rule #6: All trading rules are crap except #7. Never be told that you have to follow someone else's rules for your own items. That's a mistake many newbies make.
Rule #7: Don't trust randoms with your valuables. Nothing in trading involves hoping that they'll come through.

So...I can be a dumb guy while trading, right?

But I can see your point :P

I agree, never should have let him go first, but since I had no rep for being it being my first time, I thought it was only fair I go for firsts so he could see I wasn't going to scam him.

Scammers always tries to scam newbies. Be aware, and with the time you will see lesser and lesser of those poor bastards.

500 rep trader wouldn't risk scamming for a bundle game - you got probably tricked by an impersonator mate ;)

That was 500 owned games in his library, not 500 rep. Still, why scam if you are civilized enough to have a level 23 profile with 500+ games?

because spenting alot of money doesn't require being civilized. And have you forgotten how crookish politicans are despite having well paying jobs and often coming from rich families?

Because whatever profile you were looking at isn't the person you were talking to most likely.

I know that feeling. Had been scammed on a 5 cards for a game trade, i went first, sent the cards but the key was getting late. After 2 days threatening i received the game thankfully.

Latest time:
A s****r tried to scam me through steamtrades. My first trade through steamtrades. On the website we agreed 3 cards for a game. On the chat he changed his mind saying that my inventory does not worth much (lie! as in his thread in steamtrades he was saying that he was checking all the inventories before he accepts to proceed to a trade). He asked for 4 cards and sent me a trade offer. When i denied his trade i got a ton of mocking and swearing.

EVENTUALLY, i reported the f*****g scammer. After my negative rep on his profile on steamtrades i received a revenge rep, too! And he didn't stop there! 3 of his friends gave him a +rep the next day. Ever since no one has traded with him. Can he be that lucky or he simply got a positive rep from his friends? Of course the second option happened!

Still waiting for a reply to my ticket after 2 weeks though :(

  • Firstly, i checked which groups he was in and posted there exactly what he did. An good Samaritan Officer also assisted me by contacted the scammer for me. Moreover, a couple of groups kicked him out.
  • He had 11 workshop items, too. I posted in all of them exactly what he did.
  • I threatened to report him. He did not reply back as he did not seem to bother. So i did a trick. I am really sorry but i won't mention what i did, final decision. Have in your mind though it's something anyone can do, even 10 year old children nowadays.
  • I posted in his profile asking him to send me the key so that we could end the story w/o a report. If he was sending me the key, i would close the ticket i had opened on him (i hadn't opened a ticket yet).

After that he did send me the key along with an apologize reply in chat, once i accepted his friend request.

Maybe he just got pissed that you had him waiting 2 hours for a bundle game?
My trades don't usually take longer than 2-3 minutes and i never got scammed...except for that one time...

Yeah was going to ask for that too, I've took my time on trades only when I can get in steam at the same time that the other guy(time zones). When everything is fine it usually only takes a few minutes. First business, then random chat.

A small tip, get Enhanced Steam, and if you go to their profile page it will give you a link to their SteamTrades profile, as well as SteamRep.
That way you can check to see if they're an impersonator or not, as it sounds like that is what you encountered.
