[1] EA was smart enough to give mostly Steam (in addition to Origin) keys in their 1st bundle.
[2] EA was also smart enough to give all the money to charity to convince even those who don't like them.
[3] Even EA is not Ubisoft (but close).

So you can play the games while running two clients at once? Smart thinking =))

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

lol@Mastery

I always think the same, why do people demand to have games on steam that will require Uplay or other to run,you still have to have the other client installed and running just to play it.

I do give credit to Social Club at least now it launches with each game so no need to have it open like you use to just to play.

If people want it on Steam that is fine,i just find it silly to run two clients for one game just for the sake of having it on steam.Just more clutter and junk running in the background.

Sometimes though it can not be helped as some times it is on sale for steam key,but still need uplay but usually in that case i just run it from Uplay.

Anyhow back to the topic of games,i can not say either way on this bundle as i do not like the games nor do i play them so i do not know how good they are.

Maybe the next bundle will be one i like but only time will tell

Uhm i don't know, i don't see it that way. It was the most dumbed-down of the lot. I'd say HoMM 5 is so far the best one since 3 and the closest to it in terms of gameplay.

As for 7 i have absolutely 0 expectations for it and from what i'v seen i might skip it entirely since it would probably only serve to make me hate Ubisoft even more for running this great franchise into the ground. If only they'd not tried to fuck over Nival after HoMM 5.... oh well...

I recently posted a thread about trying to open things up more and there wasn't much response. Unfortunately, I think services like Uplay and Origin - which exist primarily for the benefit of Ubi/EA - have put people off the idea of other potential, genuine alternatives to Steam.

Have you actually read the announcement? It's pretty clear from it that the paid mods idea is not dead.

Skyrim was probably not the right place to start iterating. We think this made us miss the mark pretty badly, even though we believe there's a useful feature somewhere here.

Permalink

Honestly Skyrim is one of the only games this could have worked on. Big, open world game with a built-in SDK. I honestly can't think of a good candidate for this system unless people start making games specifically for paid-for mods.

If the one you were interested on is VI, then, unfortunately, even if you get a Steam version at some point it requires Uplay so for that particular game at least, it's the same thing since the Steam version launches Uplay.

Good luck with the refund! Just in case you don't succeed, at least I haven't had any problems with them on Uplay (except once ages ago that I lost a save, but I've had that happen with Steam Cloud, too).

I didn't mean Heroes VI. Might and Magic VI: The Mandate of Heaven is the game I was talking about.

M&M X still uses uPlay on Steam.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Still, doesn't say it's included.

What I mean is, if activating on steam, the only thing that does is loading it on uplay and losing all the features on steam: screenshots, videos, community with shift tab, achievements, inviting to users to play with you,... then it's pointless to activate on steam.

Trying to figure out if it's better to purchase it inside steam or just add a link manually to uplay.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

The Steam store page for M&M X mentions the free M&M VI in the Deluxe Edition.

Don't know about the other M&M games, but M&M X doesn't have Steam achievements. All other Steam features should work fine though with the exception of inviting others to play with you, which is impossible since it's a single player game.

GF used it on last saturday - and she's still having problem connecting to cloud to update her rayman saves. Been 2 months since she got error for the 1st time, got reply they're working on it and ticket closed. Nothing fixed so far, each run of game starts with the same error and in case we llost local save files all progress will be lost.

Indeed, so much ignorance.

Comment has been collapsed.

I'm not saying it's perfect but we know well enough that numerous people love talking shit about Origin/UPlay just for the sake of shit talking. UPlay has come a long way and it's better than before, that's for sure. And connection/server errors happen even on Steam.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

idk what you know, but I know that UP is still utter shit ;p First of all it's not some connection/server problem. It's continuous error that appears every time she launches the game (she plays it 2-3 times a week) for over 2 months. Not connecting to cloud, not registering personal records, achievments and saves. If it's connection/server error it means that server that is responsible for it must be offline for over 2 months... With all Steam-goes-offline errors I don't remember it being offline for longer than a day ;p

Going on - UP is horribly optimized, even after recent updates (yay, it no longer eats 75% of CPU usage just for launching it leaving 25% for game) it still uses up much more resources compared to Steam or Origin, while giving user less options, more laggy experience etc.

Also idk why you mentioned Origin, as I never talked about it ;p With all my hate towards EA, that is totally based on their business practices, killing off IPs and studios, I won't say a bad thing about Origin client - it's stable, has great support and very small impact on PC performance. But UPlay client is simply bad - it was bad before and it remains bad now. Comparing it to it's competition they are years behind.

Permalink

I hear you but I personally never experienced any problems with UPlay and I've beaten a few games there during the years. So I can't really relate to any of that.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Then lucky you ;) I also managed to finish quite a few games (Valiant Hearts, Prince of Persia TFS, FC3, 3 AC games) without bigger problems (despite usual UPlay taking additional CPU), but also had at least 3 cases of problems - mentioned Rayman not connecting to Cloud and not recording times/achievments/other rewards, AC4 not connecting to online features at some times and lately loosing ~1 chapter progress in Child of Light (but it may be due to the fact that I had a power shortage and game closed because of that).

Yes, and i regret that i do this. This garbage can't be fixed, even Origin is better than uplay

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yes. It spiked my CPU to 100% usage because it wanted to update a game. It has a memory leak. It refuses to remember what games I actually own on Steam, even though it's the same account. It refuses to log me in half the times due to server errors. Most of the games I own that use it are simply unplayable because of it.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I finished Child of Light earlier this month, so I had to use it. As much as I hated GFWL for being a clunky piece of crap that barely did its job, at least it didn't cause crashes for no reason while in online mode.
